Another Madison walk.

Up early, blogging a couple photos, I felt the breeze and decided to get out -- with camera -- while the temperature was 65°. There was nobody around. Just the occasional beast:

University Heights

There were gardens:

Garden

With flowers trying to break out of their cage:

Caged flowers

There were vistas:

Lake Mendota

And readers lined up along vistas:

Lake Mendota

It was a longish walk, and I know your question is: What was the Althousian hiking shoe?

Shoe

I admire those people reading at the lake. I can never read in front of a good view. I always look up every five seconds. That's why, as hard as I try, I can't read at strip clubs.

Regarding the shoe color: Maybe it's my monitor, but it looks like a perfectly normal beige to me. I'm no fashionista, but my understanding is that beige is not a wacky color. Also, it's clear even to the untrained eye that Althouse has good taste in shoes. Both shoes look cool and expensive.

Regarding feet: Is it me, or has the world gone pedicure crazy? Every woman I know has perfectly groomed feet and toenails. In my experience, it was not like this ten years ago. Regardless, it is a good thing. The more time and effort women spend on every aspect of their appearence, however minute, the better.

But I've heard that even men are getting pedicures! This is not good. Men should not care about having pretty feet. A man should be concerned about only two things when it comes to his feet: cleanliness and odor. In fact, all proper male grooming can be reduced to: Be clean, don't stink.

Johnny: The shoes are definitely green. But not avocado (like refrigerators). I did tweak the color in the photo a little though. But they are green. Also cool and expensive. As were the violet shoes the other day. Both are the same brand -- and French.

As for the pedicures, once you start, you have to keep it up, because the unpolished toes just have a weird naked look. And toes are different from fingers. Fingernail polish doesn't last, but a pedicure will last a whole month. It's much more worth doing. Also fingers are more sensitive -- you can feel the fingernail polish and you're much more likely to start biting at it. We've all bitten our toenails. But not that often.

My monitor really sucks. I can see it now, the green. It's subtle though and works. I know nothing about women's shoes other than some are hot and some are not, but I know good style and those shoes are good style.

I am very pro-pedicure. Pedicures look good. I don't mind that the Korean mafia runs it. I think it's good that they don't serve dudes.

My pedicurist isn't Korean. I could be wrong, but I think the Korean nail places specialist in artificial fingernails. Only very strange women have artificial toenails!

I'm not so sure it was chartreuse, but it was a green much closer to that shoe color than to avocado...they also had that 'burnt sunset' color on the stove...ick!

Wasn't the weather today just absolutely glorious?

Ann, did you ever get those glove shoes? Are they comfortable?

MM: The weather is still lovely. Yeah, I got those crazy shoes. Will have to do a photo. They're funny.

I think women wear more sandals now than in the past as well. Certainly more flip flops. If your feet are visible, they have to be pretty.

I had a friend who had acrylic toenails on her big toes. Not the little ones. And she was very strange.

Ha ha, about the beast. I had to get out of the CC furnace last week and went up to Idylwild where they have gray beasts. Entertaining little critters as long as they are not in your attic!

Thanks for your Madison walk-about photos.

Two things:

1. Don't you love the way readers along the vista instinctively place themselves equidistant from one another? The same thing happens on beaches.

2. Foot blogging is in the air. Herewith my own offering (scroll down):

All the world's a stage

Sissy: I see you have "blogger's toe," but where's the nail polish?

I always take a good pedicure as a good omen. When my newborns were clinging for life, their neonatologist, a woman in her 50s was their attending. Even in scrubs, she had on lovely jewelry and I noticed a pretty pedicure peeking through sensible sandals. I thought that she valued nice things and somehow concluded that she'd be a good doctor to my girls.

She was most excellent.

Pedicure = good.

Every time I scroll by, I can't help but stop and admire that beautiful garden. Thanks again.
