Oh, you know how I adore Dakota Fanning!

Why do I find myself just LOVING Drew Barrymore?

I mean, she was a walking train-wreck before adolescence, an exhibitionist, she married frikkin Tom Green, she's Courtney Love's best friend for Chrissake...

...and still she's so sympathetic to me. Must be the Barrymore allure (and a generational relationship, since I saw ET was perhaps the first real movie I remember).

Anyway, LOL @ the video and at the skit.

You can just hear, "On the Next Dakota Fanning", can't you?

We all of us have a deep cringe factor to children who are overweeningly advanced for their years (hehe at the Michiko Kakatani reference).

I should know. I was one of them (see what I mean?).

But the real irony in this skit, is that Dakota Fanning is playing a child far advanced in her years, but merely on the screen.

Whereas her opposite, Drew Barrymore, was the youngest ever presenter on SNL back in 1982; in rehab by the age of 12 and had "divorced" her mum before hitting 16.

She's the real child actor, way way ahead of her years not Fanning.

Of course, the kid who is the problem child is never as unappealing at the priggish, intellectually gifted kid.

That's just the way it is.

Cheers,
Victoria

I saw this live on Saturday Night and I knew it deserved blog coverage. I love Amy Poehler.

Kristen Wiig, who shows up as Dakota's mother in this clip, has shown herself to be a highly versatile comedic actress this season.

The hit-to-miss ratio on SNL has greatly improved over the last couple of years. I was worried when Tina Fey left, but this year has not disappointed me.

Oh, yeah, I love the way she drinks the juice.

I don't follow.

I do find Dakota Fanning remarkably mature - disconcertingly so, as if she were a character in Ender's Game. We ought to be glad she's content with acting instead of international politics.

She's great!

Though I miss her and Tiny Fey doing the news together (of course, I also miss Chevy Chase and Jane Curtain, as well as A. Whitney Brown...remember him?).

I also miss Phil Hartmann, a lot.

What an eye you have, Peter. Though it was the merest of cameos, I re-wound the bit where she says "Just call me mom".

For whatever reason, it catches your eye.

I would like to say the same, but I find SNL this year to be very boring, and really unfunny.

There are excellent bits, like the Hillary announcement, but mostly for me, it's just dross.

P.S.: Tiny Fey was talking about her time at SNL a fortnight ago on NPR. I hadn't known she had been a writer of some of my favourite sketches, 'til I heard her speak about them (the Jeopardy one, e.g. with "Sean Connery").

Victoria

It's a brilliant impression... too bad all they can do is use it in a talk show format. I think SNL might be 80% talk show sketches now.

Damn, I just assumed it was for real. So much for North American irony-bypass.

Victoria, was that "I'll take 'The Rapists' for $500" -- "Mr. Connery, that's "Therapists."

No, Mr. Connery, that is "The Pen Is Mightier."

LOL!

"Suck it, Trebek".

Also, Jimmy Fallon was playing a straight role on Jeopardy, next to a French hooker Edith Piaf-type.

"Can I stop playing, she smells of feet."
