"The imprint of seams and zips and buttons will, with time, fade..."

"... the smarting humiliation that sensible women (yes, including me) actually wore this garment outside, in public, will take a lot longer to recover from."

Good riddance to the "hideous" garment that had "the cheek to tell you what your body shape needs to be in order to wear it."

I never quite understood what made a 'skinny jean' as opposed to say, wearing a pair of jeans one or two sizes too small?

Then again, nothing was more stupid than a guy wearing 'skinny jeans'. That ranked right up there with Speedos in my book.

some women were not destined to wear them and look great in other selections.

other women looked great in skinny jeans and should continue to wear them.

one asks then if you dress for you or dress for me/us? do you dress so you look smashing or for smashing looks (from others).

if all you females would prefer to go nude...

Women (and men) who wear stuff, and then complain about having been made to wear it by the ruthless fashion industry, deserve ridicule. They should stop being lemmings.

Isn't it that normal jeans are cut more or less like slacks, maybe a little less generously, but these "skinny jeans" are form-fitting, so the taper down the leg is more dramatic, and the, ah, upper bit where it has to mould around the lower torso is cut with an eye to fitting precisely against the skin, rather than cut to hang off the body with some give the way normal jeans are? You could approximate the form-fitting with a smaller pair of jeans, I expect, but it wouldn't be quite right, just awfully tight.

Of course, I wouldn't really know, never having worn skinny jeans, and not having worn a pair of normal jeans since I was in elementary school.

I should have added: I miss the word dungaree.

I suppose you're right. I know there are different 'cuts' in jeans, boot, straight leg etc. I have a couple pair of boot cut where the bottoms flare out wider than regular jeans.

Speaking of sizes, I think it's funny how some 'cuts' actually change the size. I bought a couple pair of Levis and wasn't really paying attention to the 'cut'. Both pair were 34 waist but one was a button fly. The button fly was near impossible for me to button all the way despite being the same waist size as the zipper fly which fit just fine.

Now, I'm picturing animals in pants.

Ahem.

Sensible women would be the ones that were wearing sensible clothing, not clothing that causes pain, regardless of the whims of fashion. Much like sensible women wear what are well-known as sensible shoes.

I did not recognize all of the women in the photo accompanying the article, but I will assume that they are all attractive. I have to assume it because none of them look good in those jeans.

Pants, but not shorts, ok? Whatever you do, please don't picture lemmings in shorts! :-) Especially not brown shorts like the UPS folks wear...

The article tries to blame Kate Moss for skinny jeans. But I remember working in England in the early 80s and seeing women wear jeans so tight and tapered at the cuffline I couldn't understand how they could get their feet through them.

I think this is just a cyclical thing like tie width.
