Obama is like Bush... even when The Daily News doesn't notice.

I had to screen-capture this juxtaposition:

bush and o

You're supposed to think Barack Obama is witty and multifaceted, and Bush is a big idiot. But both are just adult men caught in the middle of a goofy facial expression — just about exactly the same expression, but for Bush they used the shot taken in the middle of a blink.

Obama needs to have the odd little growth on his shoulder removed in picture #5.

(1) I'm still hoping for the best from the current administration. I will make every effort to continue to do so and I know I will succeed at that.

(2) I guess I'll never outgrow my tendency to get downhearted over the realization that there are a bunch of healthy, affluent, successful, sociable, psychologically normal people out there who look at that picture of President Obama and see an endearing father figure and who then look at that picture of President Bush and go, "HAW, HAW, HAW" as if they were Scut Farkas without the introspection.

(3) It was a dark joke, indeed, from Jean Shepherd that we are either a bully, a toady, or one of the nameless rabble of victims.

(4) Nobody goes to the circus sideshow to laugh at the freaks anymore.

Those shows have been outlawed.

You lose that bet.

"Have Obama haters started calling him Chimpy?"

That will never happen, because it would seem racist, even with the glaring precedent of calling Bush a chimp.

Chumpy, then.

Can we all just agree that he is president and show and show the proper respect

I remember the MSM and bloggers everywhere saying exactly this when Bush was elected. I mean selected.

What a joke.

I thought the camera was supposed to make you look fat. "Chumpy" seems a tad imappropriate since he looks even skinnier in these photos than he did earlier.

He needs to grow a little protective layer or he's going to be sick a lot during the next few years.

I've noticed the talk of Michelle being the new fashion icon has died down considerably.

To liken BO to a chimp is insulting to chimps.

Chimps, for the most part, don't smoke cigarettes.

Not outlawed...just moved onto TV and given their own reality show.

None of these "But what about OBAMA?" moments are going to make Bush a better president in hindsight.

But they are going to make us nostalgic about having someone who accomplishes something other than naming crooks to public offices. When is Obama going to step up to the plate and actually do something other than react to San Fran Nan and Dirty Harry Reid.

What's interestingly ironic about Obama reading to the children was the subject of the book.

The Moon Over Star

It's about an African American girl dreaming about being an astronaut someday.

The irony is that during the campaigns both major Democrat contenders were for cutting a lot of funding for NASA.

Alex said...

Beth - you miss the point. The MSM is horribly biased against Republicans. So your claim about Bush's bad legacy in the minds of the American people is at least 70% a product of MSM and not reality.

Beth said...

Alex, I said nothing about Bush's "legacy in the minds of the American people."

And ultimately none of the "But what about BUSH?" moments are going to excuse Obama's mistakes.

Blake - Obama's been President for about 19 days.

Why not give him a chance before starting in any comparisons to George W. Bush's lack of performance over the past 8 years.

This site should be renamed the WHINE SITE.

blake said...

He's had plenty of chance to demonstrate he really is a liar. Rendition still okay, torture still okay, troops still in Iraq, Gitmo still open, no tax cut for 95%, no net spending decrease, no troop increase in Afghanistan, no pay-as-you-go, no public 5-day period for reviewing new bills, lobbyists in the cabinet, no rush to repeal DADT, on and on and on.

People are freezing to death in Kentucky and nobama there. By this time after Katrina it was concluded that George W Bush just didn't care about black people.

How he turns out as a President is of course not known, but the number of lies he told to get there is astonishing.

Face it, the guy's a neophyte. Our only hope is that he gets (lots) better.

When I took Anthropology 101 in college (early 2001), the professor introduced the discussion of human evolution with a series of pictures of President Bush caught making goofy faces with pictures of chimps making similar faces. She said that she does this every year with pictures of the current president.

I didn't see it as insulting then- the president is clearly the most photographed person in the country at any given time, and it got a laugh, and it really did demonstrate the similarities between humans and apes.

I long to shoot her a line now and find out if she's still doing that this year. Somehow, I doubt it.

Meade said...

Melissa, I can almost guarantee you she is not.

Obama will have his gaffes too, and I think George W. Bush will fair far better historically than many give him credit for now, but these gaffes are funny:

1. "Will the highways on the internet become more few?"

2. "It’s a time of sorrow and sadness when we lose a loss of life"

3. "I appreciate the fact that you really snatched defeat out of the jaws of those who are trying to defeat us in Iraq"

4. "I remember meeting a mother of a child who was abducted by the North Koreans right here in the Oval Office"

5. "We’re concerned about Aids inside our White House – make no mistake about it"

6. "I’m honoured to shake the hand of a brave Iraqi citizen who had his hand cut off by Saddam Hussein"

7. "I’ve coined new words, like “misunderstanding”

8. "I recently met with the finance minister of the Palestinian Authority, was very impressed by his grasp of finances"

9. "It’s in our country’s interests to find those who would do harm to us and get them out of harm's way"

10. "One year ago today, the time for excuse-making has come to an end"

11. "I promise you I will listen to what has been said here, even though I wasn’t here"

12. "You teach a child to read, and he or her will be able to pass a literacy test"

13. "I don’t particularly like it when people put words in my mouth, either, by the way, unless I say it

14. "[The Taliban] have no disregard for human life"

15. "When the governor calls, I answer his phone"

16. "Those who enter the country illegally violate the law"

17. "I think we agree, the past is over"

18. "America stands for liberty, for the pursuit of happiness and for the unalienalienable right of life"

19. "My job is a decision-making job, and as a result, I make a lot of decisions"

20. "One of the great things about books is sometimes there are some fantastic pictures"

If there are any Lileks fans on this thread, "Chumpy McSpendthrift" sounds like name that James or one of his commenters would make up for the villain in one of the Lance Lawson comics.

- - - - - -

Let me be honest. People who say that are fucking morons incapable of intellectual honesty.

The man was in a roomful of children, being told that his nation was under attack, that the WTC and Pentagon were under attack. If he had jumped up and run out, you'd have criticized him for being "emotional" and for "not keeping the children in mind. He scared the children."

BE HONEST, Asshole. The chances are, since no one knew what was going on, the President was waiting for the SS to do a double check of the whole area and surrounding roads before risking taking the president out of there, so he did the CALM, RATIONAL and SANE thing. He continued in a calm and measured way to deal with the children. He kept things calm. And then he went out and did what he had to do.

BE FUCKING HONEST.

How is this a gaffe? Did the man only have one hand to start with, or did he originally have two, like the rest of us?

Heh. They called Bush "Chimpy McHalliburton", which cracked me up.

A pompous, self-important nitwit like Obama deserves a really great taunt just like that one.

Your work is cut out for you, and remember that political correctness and race pandering laws disallow the use of the word "chimp" in any form.

I think "Dumbo" might serve to connect the themes of his hilarious ears and his grotesquely overestimated intellect.

Jaibones said...

Chimpy McStalin fails on all levels. It violates the laws of racepandering, and also Godwin's law. Worse yet - it isn't fun or clever.

Jaibones said...

I have a friend who calls him Barama, but ... eh. I always liked Obambi; I think Michelle (sigh) Malkin gave him that.

When he was talking smack about Pakistan, the HotAirians were called him O'Bomba. Heh.

How about O'Dumbo? Too visceral?

Hey, if he makes just one more of his pro-terrorist moves, a la "close Gitmo", "drop the charges against the Cole bombers", etc., we can go back to the beginning with "Osama Obama".

He's such an instant disaster that his worst critics have been almost fully vindicated in 5 weeks. This is a liberal clown for the ages.

It's not so much the goofy photo as the story behind it. I think this image is from B&M's "escape" from the White House on that "tough day" when Daschle dropped out. B&M were feeling bummed, all shut up like that in the White House, and fled to a venue where no one would criticize them or ask inconvenient questions. Who knows if he can handle the pressure of the office?

Beth said...

I only ever saw or heard that from rightwingers, using it as a strawman as they launched "You're DEEEERANGED" BDS bullshit whenever anyone dared to criticize Bush.

Actually (I'm sorry, I didn't have time to find the link), this quote occured when President Bush was visiting a group of physicians who were fitting prostetic hands on these victims of Hussain's regime.

Bush was shaking the victim's prostetic hand. So, the quote not only doesn't make sense on its face, it is taken out of context in an incredibly dishonest way.

At the moment, Drudge has a picture of Obama bumping his head while getting into Marine One.
If this happened with GWB, it would give Leno and Letterman at least 3 months worth of monologue jokes. As it is, I'm willing to bet it won't be mentioned tonight on either show.
