It's nice to get dog-love where you can find it.

The bigger the poodle the better the poodle. Best is the full sized hunting poodle.

Yeah they're smart. But I still don't like 'em.

ricpic, here you go.

My daughter has a standard poodle. He's very smart and a pleasure to be around. I understand that poodles are up there with border collies in intelligence. The difference is more in temperament - poodles are more laid-back. To illustrate:

OWNER: Now we're going to learn a new trick!

BORDER COLLIE: Oh boy! Oh boy! Now I can show you how smart I am!

POODLE: You're kidding, right?

Ann, I didn't know your middle name was Irene.

PS Woof, from all our yorx.

ErnieG, you nailed it.

The response we get is, "You want me to what?"

I was surprised to learn that they were originally draught animals and then was stunned to learn that there was an all poodle team that raced the Iditarod.

Those two fellers pictured look similar to each other :1

No. Rand Paul.

The trouble with poodles is that they are neurotic and get their feelings hurt too easily. The dog that will accept whatever you do or say is much easier to live with.

lemondog said...

...poodles is that they are neurotic...

Don't neurotic people create neurotic animals?

In Goethe's "Faust", Mephistopheles (the demon) first appears to Faust in the form of a big poodle.

The scene when he sheds the poodle guise and reveals his true form includes the line:

Wie wird mein Pudel lang und breit!

I've read several translations of "Faust" and my favorite rendition of that line is in Peter Salm's translation:

How broad and long my poodle waxes!

I love to say that in the most random and inappropriate contexts. Try it yourself!

I also like that Goethe uses (coins) a word: pudelnärrisch, which is usually rendered as something like "poodly-foolish"!

Why do poodles always remind me of irises

Poodle/Iris

re: Poodle/Iris

I'd be careful there, don't risk one of those matter/anti-matter kind of situations (not to mention an increadible sense of disorientation on the part of the viewer
It's a dog..no its a flower..no its a dog

Meade, that poodle/iris shot is incredibly beautiful. Silver poodles are rare, and it is a delight to see one.
