Just Rory.

We need more honesty in our politicians.

Like this promising candidate.

Forget his forgetfulness about his own name. He's even scarier looking than his father. Fortunately both of them will be joining the real economy soon enough.

Well, it worked for Hillary!

It's a good strategy. He might get 52% of the vote. The Alvin Greene Guide to Election Victory.

Wow. News used to be about reporters writing about things that happened.

Now, you can create news by doing content analysis of a web site! It's cool that Fox News is doing it now. Used to be that this kind of piece would be the exclusive province of the political blogs.

(It's like during the Cold War, when CIA intelligence analysts would Soviet newspapers "between the lines" to extrapolate what was really happening in the Kremlin.)

If my last name were "Reid" I wouldn't admit it either.

I don't know. You could probably count on 52% of the voters to think you were Lou Reed.

Maybe Rory's dad will follow suit and run simply as "Harry"? If I had as miserable a legislative legacy as Reid I'd do the same thing.

Tee hee. Makes me think of this show my son used to watch.

I suppose if Madonna, Sting, or, say, Jesus, were running for high political office, they could get away with this.

However, given the current political climate and his surname, I believe this goes squarely into category of "how the fuck stupid do they think we really are?"

AllenS said...

If Jesus were running for political office, he'd use his full name: Jesus H. Christ. He'd probably let everyone know who dad is.

My prediction: Harry Reid's got a lot of markers to call in and he's gonna call in every last one this election. Reid wins a squeaker.

Is that ad even legal in Nevada? Don't you have to disclose who paid for the ad?

ricpic said...

What does the H stand for?

AllenS said...

Wikianswers:

According to the man, the "H" in "Jesus H. Christ" stands for "Himself."

Now the question is, who is the man?

Yes, I think he should have used his father's name heavily so the charge of nepotism could be thrown around.

When Mitt Romney's mom ran for Senator from Michigan, her billboards just said, "Lenore."

Maybe she didn't want to trade on the immense appeal of her husband, Governor George.

The best name in Michigan politics, of all time, has to be G. Mennen "Soapy" Williams. Yes he was part of the toiletries family.

Will his name just appear as Rory on the ballot?

It would be acceptable if he disagreed with his dad's politics, but he's the same, which makes this the equivalent of a bald-faced lie. Can you lie anymore than about who you are and what you believe in. It admits that you are unpopular and hope voters vote for you by mistake. I love the Democrats' ethics. It makes the rest of us seem honorable no matter what.

Rory from Searchlight searches for a new Father among sure winning candidates. That would make a great reality TV show like the Batchelor Show.

Hoosier Daddy said...

What kind of name is Rory? Isn't that what you name a pet? And Rory Reid? Did they even try sounding that out before making it official?

Hoosier Daddy said...

Well since Rory looks like dad gave birth to him, I'd say he'll have a hard time distancing himself from the old man.

HD has to be old enough to remember Rory Calhoun.

Rory? All I can think of is the old Jetsons cartoons with Astro the dog. "Rorry, Rorge!"

Either that or he was supposed to be Kim Jong-Il in Team America: World Police. Somehow, I suspect that after the polls close, Rory will be singing, "I'm So Ronery."

What's funny is that the attempt at hiding his Reidness is backfiring. He has manged to make the connection national news in addition to showing his dishonesty, which I'm sure is genetic.

Epic Fail. Someone needs fired...in addition to Dad. Last time I was in Vegas there were signs and bumper stickers that said "Anyone but Reid". That's a twofer now.

It makes him looks as if he's ashamed of dear old Dad.

And he should be.

No love for Kato's boss? Britt Reid rides again!

Why would he be ashamed of Robert Reed? I mean he was a great actor and a good guy. And he even spells his name differently.
