I don't see a lot of resemblance between you two. Similar skintone, perhaps. Same jaw, maybe. Are you therefore full of recessive genes?

You've got a fine looking son who is protective of his Mom. Good man.

The daughter heads back to college in the morning. Nice to have the kids around, but good to see them go off and do their own thing.

How I visited Mom and had a strange day at the State Capital!!

Now on his "duty to retreat" back to Texas.

That's what a man looks like.

Sorry I missed all the excitement of the attack-in-the-square post the other day, but here's a hearty, belated "well done" to Chris for stepping in on your behalf.

I think it's great that your son would come to your defense. It's good to know that not all young men are wimps.

You are a lucky woman.

He's a lucky man.

Chris is a pretty cool dude in my book.

Of course his brother is going to have to slap a hippie to even things up.

Just sayn'

He could slap himself.

But I kid the JAC!

You raised yourself a good son, Madame.

You should be as proud of him as he is of his Mom.

Impressive family you have there, Professor!

Ben Smith should look at Chris's protective response rather than Perry's egg eating.

We get to see our older son in Milwaukee this weekend, painting in 'plein air' at the domes art festival. Our younger son leaves for college the following week.

Empty nest, the photo foretells.

Meade's going to have to keep a closer eye on you, Mam, when ypu're out and about the loonies there in MadTown!

But, sounds like a great visit.

No matter the age it is so great to have your children come home to visit. No matter how long they are home it always feels like it should be just a bit longer.

Hope you had as great a visit with your son as I had with my daughter!

Chris's wrist seems okay.

You know, there's a lot to talk about that "incident." It was such a learning experience ... I bet Kirby Jones is getting lots of questions from friends "who didn't know."

Plus, Officer Calhoun, if he sees you guys, again, I'll bet he's gonna be extra, extra polite.

Uhm... Not after the Missing Hand incident he won't!!! :-)

If your kid wants to order a beer, it looks like he'd be carded.

This is very charming. Thank you for sharing it, Professor Althouse.

Chris ought to take up some sort of full-contact Karate. Then, the next time Anne is attacked, he will be able to knock down the skanky hippie or hippies that attacks his Mom. :)

Chris- find yourself a Dojo that teaches authentic Kyokushin Karate.

He could slap himself.

That's not fair Palladian. JAC is not a hippie.

He is a boring pompous pedantic lefty.

Haven't your read his blog.

Thanks for the compliments.

Daniel, maybe I will learn some karate or something. I technically used a karate self defense move that I learned as a child to get that guy's arm off me (which is what you see me doing in the video). I should know how to fight better in case I get attacked by homophobic people somewhere. I was mugged in LA once by two gang members, and I think I probably could've gotten away in that situation if I'd been more assertive.

UC San Diego offers Wing Chun classes. You don't need special clothes. Basically, it's self defense, with maneuvers where you see advantages in tight spaces.

Since UC San Diego has this, why not college campuses all over? Why not in Texas?

You did good, kid! All a' ya! Krby Jones and Dickman, however, got caught in an internet web. Just like the "disassociated hand."

Officer Calhoun will also be lots more polite ... if on his 2nd shift ... he runs into your mom, again.
