"Feng was not forced to abort... A lot of us tried for days to educate her. She agreed to the abortion herself."

China's one-child policy.

ADDED: In The New Yorker:
China convulsed this week around the story of Feng Jianmei, a twenty-three-year-old expectant mother, who was escorted from a relative’s home in Shaanxi province by local family-planning officials, shoved into a van, and driven to a hospital. She was blindfolded and given a document to sign. It didn’t matter that she couldn’t see it; she knew why she was there. She had violated the one-child policy. Two shots were injected into her belly, and on the morning of June 4th she gave birth to a stillborn baby girl.

Afterward, while she lay on a metal-framed hospital bed, her sister took a devastating (and, be warned, graphic) photo: mother, beside the bloodied remains of her daughter. It electrified the country. By Thursday night, the topic had attracted a million comments on Weibo, the Chinese Twitter, and rage was mounting. China’s family-planning system has been “openly killing people for years in the name of national policy,” a commenter wrote on Clubkdnet.net. “What is wrong with society?” Li Chengpeng, a widely followed commentator, wrote, “A seven-month baby can think already. I want to ask the murderer, how do you face your own mother when you go home? If this evil policy is not stopped, this country will have no humanity.”...

To some extent this may be a status issue, One of my medical students, female, was from China. Her mother was a professor at Beijing University. She had a brother and when I asked her about this she said, "Oh, they aren't very smart." Either her mother tricked the officials or she was allowed to have a second child.

Interestingly enough, my student's father was educated as a physicist but worked as an auto mechanic because he is Christian. Her mother, she said, was advised not to marry him but ignored the advice.

The student learned English from her grandfather and speaks excellent English although she was apologetic about it at first. She is now a surgery resident, planning a career in breast surgery.. She told me she came here for her medical training so she would be in a position to care for her parents.

She also is married to a South American man, the racial solidarity of Chinese women is probably breaking down over the obvious discrimination in China. I know a number of Chinese high status women who are marrying Americans or other Caucasians. That didn't used to be the case.

The country hasn't had any humanity since 1949.

Glad they're finally waking up to it.

I have a daughter in China. She says "You can have as many children as you want!!"

You just have to pay the right official.

Yet, when you put it up for conversation, a lot of American leftists will still defend the one child policy.

It's curious that she had to sign something.

It's like the darkest days of the Soviet Union when there would be a knock on the door in the night...

For some reason they knocked.

Unlike our swat teams, or possibly death panels.

The assumption of moral high ground is probably the difference.

That said, it looks like China has discovered women's TV.

What's the difference between this and Planned Parenthood, the personal playground of the daughter of ex-Texas governor, Ann Richards?

Nothing.

Democrats, they love them the murder of unborn children, don't they?

Democrats, murderers all.

Abortion there, abortion here; the lie of "choice" does not mean someone does not die.

And those finding comfort in some distinction between China's forced abortions and our abortions disregard the ultimate effect: someone dies.

Always.

Went and read the article. It seemed more of a defense of abortion than anything else. I guess I need to be more practical, like the Chinese.

It's those nutty Christians again getting in the way of Chinese law.

It's funny how Obama longs for the day that he can just order such things without Congressional interference.

Obama will look over the list of illegally pregnant women every week and select the wombs to be D&C'd (droned and cleaned). It's for the planet that bears a burden of too much human trash already...especially those women ones.

The act of procreating and raising healthy children has always been an act of hope in God's covenant love. Silly Christians!

China is facing a demographic collapse because of this policy. It has been shown over and over again that, as societies become prosperous, the birth rate falls. China has about 200,000 too few women with the number growing. That means men who will never marry. There are already stories of kidnappings of women in Thailand and elsewhere to provide wives. A s noted above, there also seems to be a rebellion of Chinese women of high status who are marrying men of other nationalities or races. My daughter has friends who were in Shanghai where the American man was teaching English and his girlfriend was Chinese.

They came back for my daughter's wedding a couple of years ago on their way to his MBA program. At the reception, the girlfriend joked that she wanted a wedding, too. A few months later they were married. Another Chinese girl of high status marrying a caucasian American.

Fucking savages. Communists, socialists, Marxists, Leninist, leftards, and liberals are all complicit in this murder and 100's of millions more. Fuck you, rot in hell, may whatever remnants of the souls you sold for your ideology, be rendered asunder into eternity. I blame you all for this. Literally, the world would be a better place if each of you died in the place of this murdered infant.

Voluntary abortion of human life reflects poorly on the mother and conspirators. However, normalization reflects poorly on the society as a whole.

Elective abortion is premeditated, preemptive termination of a developing human life.

Incidentally, human life develops from conception to grave. Any other perception of human life is subjective and arbitrary, which cannot be substantiated through the scientific process.

Anyway, there are choices long before the abortion option ever arises, and long after it is rejected. In order to preserve the value of human life we need to honor it. In order to preserve our liberty we need to be capable of self-moderating behavior.

About a week ago finished Merchants of Despair, which has a chapter on the PRC. Guess where the idea for the 'one child' policy came from?
The book 'The Population Bomb', by Paul Ehrlich. 'Too many people, and far too many of the wrong kind of people'...

That's the country that Obama wants to sell us to, in exchange for his social policy enshrined in Obamacare, which will definitely take care of any holdouts to abortion.

There is no way you can educate three generations of people, then give them jobs, income and choices, and expect them to sit still forever when it comes to political rights.

Did not work for the Shah. Did not work for the South Koreans. Did not work for the Russians, for that matter. And it won't work here either. Single-party rule in China is doomed and it won't be long now.

====================
Not just Leftists.

China looked ahead and saw real trouble unless they worked to get a population their land could sustain.
Otherwise, they would soon have to invade other arable lands and soon in turn be facing Russian and American nuke missiles ready to launch on behalf of lands invaded by starving, overpopulated China.

The West didn't like that - being of two minds -
(1) That it was the duty of wealthy Western nations flush with money to subsidize populations of Haitians, Egyptians and so on that have bred to 3 times what their lands can support....or claimed a "right to immigrate to the West".
(2)The other faction was the religious conservative moron segment - that held Jesus and high tech would provide all the wheat the Somalis, Pakis, Haitians needed..and if not we had a "Christian duty" to feed the momma and her 8 chilluns and 18 years later, her, her 8 chilluns and 53 grandchildren.
It was all about Freedom for Freedom Lovers!!!! -

And nothing says Freedom!! like a thug in Tennessee free to have 30 children by 11 different unmarried mothers...and while conservatives may dislike the parasitism...they say that they have a duty fo feed, clothe, house, and provide free schooling and medical care from America's endless money and resources.

In hindsight, with Europe bankrupt and no longer able to support either fast-breeding Africans and Muslims who Fled to Freedom!! - and send all those 10s of billions in free food to the 3rd World (with the US not to far behind them!) ......

China looks very wise.
They go too far in aborting 3rd trimester fetuses,
but can we say we will not ourselves one day have to punish the children, the children!! with less benefits because we can't afford to pay for "Freedom Loving breeders that expect others to pay for themselves and all they chilluns?????

KCFleming said...

I suppose we can take some comfort in knowing that the fetus looks nowhere near as human as this 7 monther when we kill it.

Cedarford,

That comment (yours of 11:19 PM yesterday) was the vilest thing I have read in some time.

But, hey, if you can't find it in yourself to think involuntary abortions are a bad thing, and you think there are too many people (always, of course, excepting yourself) on the planet, do consider the demographic aspect of the ongoing European implosion, the Chinese male/female ratio, and where the heck Social Security and Medicare are going to be financed from without those "chilluns."

Firehand said...

Cedarford is ignoring the demographhic bomb going off in the PRC as one of the consequences of their 'very wise' policy: lots of female babies killed, now a shortage of women. And getting worse. Yeah, they're so frickin' wise...
