Wow, your latest batch of landscape images have very vibrant colors...at least on my monitor. There is something so compelling about wetland areas in the spring and in the fall that makes for great imagery. Maybe its the absence of the glaring sun.

My GF from Wisconsin is always marveling at the difference between her Wisconsin skies and cloudscapes and her new ones here in North Florida. Lovely but so very different from each other. My favorite skies in the U.S. are northern New Mexico along US64.

David French said it better than I could -

"It had to happen eventually. The party of government and the government itself would start to merge into one seamless whole — capable of acting on their respective desires without even the necessity of explicit instructions."

I've thought this for some time now. It started when some democratic party activist cum Ohio bureaucrat decided to try to destroy Joe the Plumber by releasing his governmental records to the press. Its primarily a function of self selection, but our civil servants are generally also Democrats. So when does the one end, and the nonpartisan job begin?

Increasingly, the difference is blurred. Think IRS scandal. Like King Henry, the white house doesn't have to explicitly tell the bureaucracy to "get" their enemies. They're there to do it in their own.

This is where all the claims that payback will be a bitch when the R's take the white house fall to the ground. The civil service simply won't play along.

The victim president....

The best analysis I've read of Obama's personality....

"Victims aren’t expected to lead. They expect to be rescued.

That would seem to be our problem as a nation right now."

Who's the hostage negotiator?

BADGERS TO PLAY LSU TIGERS AT LAMBEAU IN SEPTEMBER 2016. WOMEN, CHILDREN AND PROTEST GROUPS HIT HARDEST.

Expanding on my 4:29 comment. Just as many say that the press will rediscover their skepticism and curiosity once an R is in office, I believe the activist portions of the civil service will rediscover their commitment to ethics and non partisanship.

Pretending that the behaviour of both press and bureaucracy are somehow equal and symetrical regarding which party is in power is simply foolish.

Evan if payback was desirable much less justifiable, it is impossible.

Beautiful light.

Even not Evan. Lord I suck at typing on a virtual keyboard.

BTW, another beautiful Althouse photograph. We've stayed at an Inn on Washington Island that has a similar boardwalk over the marshes to take you out toward Lake Michigan. Your photo helps reinforce the memory.

St George, a devastating analysis of Obama. Could we expand this analysis to the modern leftists, even the privileged latte liberals? Would explain why they want the govt to fix every perceived ill and make us the successful, the perceived perps the enemy.

I should have said this in the Scalia post--the devil made me not do it--but one of the interesting things about The Screwtape Letters is the insight that a devil is simply an angel with free will.

Thus if you believe in an afterlife--and an overwhelming number of people believe in an afterlife--you should acknowledge devils. They are simply angels who are in rebellion with God. Which God allows, because God believes in free will for humanity.

What a fantastic book The Screwtape Letters is.

I would pay money for Althouse to blog that book!

Discussion of devils (demons) and how they operate against us is somehow ignored in Christian and non-Christian circles. Unfortunately. "Devil-made-me-do-it" is a poor fallback.

This blog may not be the place to do so---and take C. S. Lewis a step further---but I mostly agree with what you said St. Croix.

I second your request of Ann to blog about Screwtape Letters. I don't really believe it is out of Ann's comfort zone when you (she would) read it.

I'll add it to my Kindle.

It's the most provocative book I've ever read, by far. Hope you enjoy it. I think it's particular fun for lawyers, since the entire book is written in the style of a devil's advocate.

I've read it before, but very long ago.
