"The legality of all emirates, groups, states and organisations becomes null by the expansion of the caliph's authority and the arrival of its troops to their areas."

"Listen to your caliph and obey him. Support your state, which grows every day."

Is it a caliphate if you say it's a caliphate? Who's the caliph? It's Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

Remember him? He's the guy who — when we released him from our custody — said "I’ll see you guys in New York."

A theme for the day emerging? We've already had "Sometimes it's hard to be a woman"; now it's "Stand by your caliph".

Oh yeah - I wouldn't count on that lasting.

"It's Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi,...He's the guy who — when we released him from our custody — said 'I’ll see you guys in New York.'"

If our guys in New York (or more likely Utah) don't see him first,...

The middle east has been such a dangerous place for Empires at war over 4,000 years that the instinct always runs to make an alliance with THE STRONG HORSE over the weak one.

After 1993 the USA was the only strong horse over the entire area until Obama stopped that in its tracts. Ask the Egyptians about what Obama did to their alliance with the USA. Today Putin is seen as a more valuable ally there than the dead horse Obama Gang.

So the rise of a Caliph claiming all fighters' loyalty is automatic in the cleared out space. They have their common enemy. And it is the same enemy that Obama has: the Christians and the Jews, that are still alive.

I can't understand their nostalgia for the Caliphate. The early Ottoman caliphate showed a certain flair for conquest in European lands, but their record so far as developing air conditioners, antibiotics, and advanced electronics was not good. Nor was the Caliphate on the cutting edge when it came to the Abolition movement, and their record with woman's rights is spotty. What was so great about the Caliphate that inspires so many Muslims to kill and die with such zeal to restore it.

Short version: A yearning for the good old days, when men were men and women were chattel, Allah was in paradise and all was right with the world. A simpler, more peaceful time, for ours is the Religion of Peace.

While it's hard to predict the gol' durn future, I'm betting that ISIS declaring itself the new caliphate will be the beginning of the end for them.

Now, everyone who isn't already on ISIS' side has a reason to hate them & see them destroyed. For the non-Muslim countries, they have just announced that they are not just an expansionist power, but are a certifiably insane expansionist power. For all the other Muslim countries, they have declared all other regimes in the Ummah illegitimate, and ask the world's Muslims to make a choice: stand with the new Caliphate or against it. Announcing right up front that possible allies are illegitimate regimes and fomenting revolt in their populations is not the way to make friends & influence people. The higher ups in ISIS might as well paint bulls-eyes on their backs.

And what the hell's up with the Iraqi Sunnis? Have these guys just never met a madman they didn't like?

I never though I would see photographs of crucifixions, much less multiple simultaneous ones, until yesterday.

Read a long analysis of ISIS yesterday that said it specializes in offensives during Ramadan which coincides with our July. This will get much, much, much worse before it gets less worse.

Abu Bakr will first have to convince all his fellow jihadists of various shades that he is the reincarnation of Haroun al Rashid.

and promising to destroy the Kaaba as soon he conquers Saudi Arabia ought to be a great help with that!

'We' didn't. The Obama regime released him from our custody.

Don't worry, it won't break the left-islam alliance.

Religious beliefs trumping secular law? Sounds like a page taken right from our very own Supreme Court's playbook

Does anyone remember a few years ago, when conservatives talked about the moslem caliphate, and the liberal "experts" claimed it was a pipe dream?
Well, it's a bit closer to reality now, isn't it?

I'd explain the difference to you, but you obviously don't have the mental capacity to understand.

Equality, everyone under the Caliph is chattel, subject to his whim.

"Just so I understand correctly, you're comparing a narrowly worded, narrowly tailored Supreme Court ruling regarding government subsidies of abortificients with a declaration of a Middle Eastern caliphate? Just want to make sure that's where you're going with this and you're owning that logic path. Please feel free to add explanatory comments if that's not your intent. Cheers."

It's Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi's caliphate if he can take it and hold it.

Sorry George. McCain has nothing to say about the mideast i want to hear. Arming "moderate" islamist is like deputizing paroles. It borders on insanity.

If you've ever wondered what the world would look like if the anti-semites did manage to kill all the joos, just look at ISIS. They're equal oppurtunity haters and killers. Religion of peace my ass.

So we can directly blame Democrats for this, since they went after Guantanimo bay mainly as an attack on Bush, not as a serious policy position.

And I don't mean just bigshots, I mean Democrat activists, donors, TV personalities, voters.

Dear Progressive Voters,

I sent my son with the fine humanitarian organization known as the United States Marine Corps to what was formerly known as the Global War on Terror three times. Horn of Africa wasn't too hard on a parent, but the Iraq tour pretty much sucked, and don't even get me started on Afghanistan.

So next time New York City is ablaze, I will feel appropriate sympathy for you, but I think we will pretty much sit the next conflict out. You assholes can send YOUR sons, next time. Oh, your daughters, too!

Elections have consequences! I now reserve my allegiance for the State of Texas. You double-skinny-vanilla-latte-sipping metrosexual boutique liberal progressive types got the government you want and can defend yourselves. In Texas, we will be dealing with the swarthy hordes streaming across the southern border. By the way, the Border Patrol needs more Pampers. Can you please help?
