"We motivated each other to not go to sleep, keep yelling, keep moving our bodies, trying to break out."

"Cause I knew if we would’ve fallen asleep…we probably wouldn’t have woke up because we would be so cold, frozen probably."

Said the 11-year-old boy who was buried for hours — along with his 9-year-old cousin — under 5 feet of snow dumped on them by a snow plow.

Snow is like a woman, white and cold, sitting on your chest, smothering you,

Fortunately the police come and dispatch her with a shovel.

I am not Laslo.

Aside from the BS, this is a story of two kids with luck and courage. Good for them, and thank God.

I know a young lady who survived being buried in an avalanche; her two skiing companions dies.

Ironically, if you had been asked to guess beforehand, you would have predicted she would be the first to go; this girl is so thin she makes Twiggy look chunky. You just never know... life is unpredictable like that.

Maybe it's like those cases of people who survive after being under very cold water for much longer than what it would normally take to drown. The extreme cold preserves the brain and the person can be brought back. Was she unconscious when discovered?

Here's a case of a boy surviving after 15 minutes underwater.

"Robert Pozos, a professor of biology at San Diego State University who has researched how people survive such extreme cases of hypothermia in water.... believes many children are aided by swallowing or breathing in cold water, which helps cool their internal organs and slows their metabolism. Once a child gets to a hospital, doctors must be careful not to attempt rapid warming, said Dr. Russ Horowitz, an attending physician in the emergency department of Children's Memorial, who was not involved in the 2-year-old boy's care. 'e have to bring them up nice and slow,' Horowitz said."

[Note to Laslo: I appreciate your creativity, but that one was a failed experiment.]

Very smart kids -- the sense that they should just give up and let themselves sleep must have been overwhelming.

Alas, I don't remember, and really don't feel like asking her!
