"Yes, beer names based on penis jokes do exist. But these represent men making fun of themselves..."

"... rather than being objectified by women. I'm sorry to say that the still-glaring under-representation of women in the craft beer industry (not to mention millennia of systematic oppression and patriarchy) will require more than a few names like 'Morning Wood' labels to iron out this issue."

A penis is a Patriarchal totem as old as time itself.

I couldn't make it past the forth of fifth paragraph. I'm pretty sure I could use PERL to create a "humorless feminist screed" generator.

Straight white males = evil gatekeepers?
Check

Assertion that gender specific organizations are just fine as long as they are for women?
Check

Insistence that more women must be included in field where start-up costs are low and anyone with talent and drive can start up their own company?
Check

Denunciation depictions of attractive women as objectification?
Check

How are women being excluded from the craft brewing industry?

I'll take their word that they are few and far between but how are they being excluded? Isn't this a matter of choice?

Will all you pro-choicers stand with me on a woman's right to choose not to brew beer?

So, the lack of women being interested in this field is...not women's fault?

Of course not! Time for huge government grants and new laws, I am sure.

I won't rest until the glaring under-representation of men in the tampon-using market is rectified.

There is a great opportunity here for craft sausage. Who wants to get right on it?

Just an idea. If you think the marketplace is screaming for Women-based microbreweries with names that sexualize men, start one up. Start 100 of them up. Even up the marketplace.

Of course, you might just find that no one gives a crap who is making the beer, or what they're calling it, just as long as they're pouring it. You want the market to 'represent' you? Get in the market.

Geez. Do we have to do everything for you?

Speaking of beer and the penis, anybody remember St. Louis-Based Griesedieck Bros Beer? Try pronouncing it real fast, lol.

My favorite Swiss beer (when I lived there) was called Feldschlosschen.

"Felch lotion" is a pretty good approximation to its pronunciation.

I've always wondered why people complain so much about easily fixed "problems" instead of actually going out and doing something about it.

If you want more women in a particular field then go out and and start up a business (or fund somebody who wants to). It may take a while to increase representation to what you consider a reasonable percentage but nobody is stopping you.

Initially I thought that it was primarily due to laziness (people like to complain but few like to act). Now, I'm starting to think that it's mostly because such people are just terrified that they'll discover they're wrong.

Can you imagine the horror that must accompany the realization that you are not actually oppressed? That the problems you cite are actually the result of a natural disinterest or lack of talent.

I work at a historic site with a functioning brewery, which i use several times a month for demonstration purposes. Plenty of female volunteers willing to help. In that time period, beer brewing at the farmer/family level was a female job. It was considered `housework`. So...get back in the kitchen you women and claim your craft brew heritage. A sandwich would be nice too.

Craft beer-making is a (somewhat) tedious, arduous, messy, lonely task.

Is that what most women would find attractive as a job?

I'm thinking 'Bitter Moon' Breweries.

It could be a profit-generator for "Our Lady Of Perpetual Grievance' that new feminist convent.

They'd probably have lesbians doing the actual dirty work until they go on strike.

How many campus rapes are inspired by frat boys drinking craft beers with sexist names? How many of those beers advertise in Rolling Stone? The hypocrisy is stunning.....I would advise women to just grin and beer it. Men who drink craft beers are marginally less pretentious than those who drink white wine spitzers and probably a good deal less sexist than Pabst drinkers who seem to revel in their poor taste.

The Griesedieck I remember was malt liquor made by the Falstaff brewery in, yes, St.Louis. The enlisted club at Ubon AB, Thailand, gave it away on club night because they couldn't sell it, or get rid of it otherwise.

Wow, what an entitlement princess. Why does someone think she has the right to tell producers what to call their product, or consumers what to buy?

Ideas are more important than commercial products, so that in a democratic system the people should have more right to dictate what professors write and teach than what beer producers put on their labels.

Feminists think that men were put on the earth to please women in all cases and that men are expected to give deference to their sensibilities at all times. The author has an entitlement issue, psychologically. She should see a therapist, rather than make demands of people she doesn't know.
