Why did Hillary lift her face and say "Do what you feel" to a woman who, feeling "sick to [her] stomach," had just said "I’m not feeling it"?

The woman was Kriss Blevens, who did Hillary Clinton's makeup for one of the 2007 debates.
That evening, Clinton sat in Blevens’s chair just before taking the stage, and the candidate’s assistant...
Huma?
... handed Blevens a red lipstick.

“I felt sick to my stomach . . . and I said, ‘I’m not feeling it,’ ” Blevens, 51, remembered recently while inside her [Manchester, New Hampshire] Main Street studio, where the teal wall matched streaks in her hair. “Hillary Clinton just lifted her face and just said to me, ‘Do what you feel.’ ”
Imagine trusting the color advice of someone who chooses teal for a wall color and, worse, makes color choices against a background of teal.

According to Blevens, to this day, clients come to her to have their makeup done and request "The Hillary." For reference, here's how Hillary looked that night:

Maybe it's just the idea that the hands that touched the face of The Hillary are now touching my face... my lifted up face... the hands that Hillary implored to do what the hands of the assistant would have done only to a sickening effect. Oh, Kriss, do what you feel!
“I always pray before I do makeup,” she said.... The most memorable moment in her 28-year-career, she said, came when she held hands with Barack Obama and prayed.... The candidate looked tired and drawn, and she remembers saying to him “Are you prayed up?”

“He looked at me, and he said, ‘I could sure use more,’ ” she recalled.... The prayer’s exact words are lost to time but one phrase, she said, remains: “Remember the moment you were called to great purpose.”

I just assumed that the "I'm not feeling it" line came from a Democrat voter. I was kind of surprised at the "do what you feel" response, in that context, since her whole campaign seems to be predicated on duty to party.

I'm feeling no sympathy for Hillary as she pushes "how does that make you feel' which preys on sentimentality and people's disdain for passing judgment on others in general and Hillary in particular. It is the democrat fall-back position in the face of damning evidence that they try to bluff their way out of.

A 51 year old woman with teal streaks in her hair? Did she wear a barely there miniskirt and suck on a lollipop too?

Hillary! The woman of a thousand faces.

I hope she washes her brushes between doing make-up for Dems vs Repubs. I don't want any dirty Dem germs on my Repub candidates!

I had a comment on how Bill C could have had some contouring done somewhere on his body but decided against it!

Oh, she painted Obama's face too?! I feel better already that this is not a sexist piece in an effort to damage Hillary.

Probably was just practicing one of her debate responses...

Nobody, I mean nobody, on Planet Earth cares a whit about Hilary's make-up.

Is there some rule against writing pieces to damage candidates? Sounds kind of anti-American to even imagine such a rule. Is Hillary running for "maximum leader" and will there be huge portraits of her in every public square? Will efforts to undermine her candidacy be considered "sedition"?

Blevens: “My job goes way beyond making them look good,” the nonpartisan makeup artist said. “To me, it’s about helping them connect with their inner self, their truth, their peace.”

With makeup?

@tim in vermont, you need to take into account the first sentence in my comment to understand the second sentence. And, of course, there is some exaggeration/sarcasm/tongue in cheek when the comment is taken as a whole.

How do we know she is non-partisan. How do we know she would not sabotage an R/D? Didn't Nixon look really bad on TV his first appearance against Kennedy and I wonder if that was also due to make-up. Did he wear makeup?

Teal is beautiful!

It's weird, because it looks like Hillary ended up wearing red lipstick.

Nixon refused makeup..and Hillary claims she is "not a crook".

oh, they are all crooks. Let us not just hang Hillary for it. Right now, Obama is the biggest of them all. You just don't know because the fucking media does not tell you.

No he did not. In addition Nixon was sick, with, iirc, the flu and had a washed-out, greenish pallor--the worst of both worlds--which combined to make him much older than JFK although they were both roughly the same age. JFK, by contrast, looked a youthful"tanned, rested and ready" (to borrow a phrase)

On top of the fact that he was more handsome than Nixon to begin with...and had better hair..ALWAYS a factor in the television age. No more 300lb Tafts or Bald Eisenhowers no matter what their talent level..

Yes, depending on the candidate's party.

Sounds kind of anti-American to even imagine such a rule.

Yes.

Yes.

Will efforts to undermine her candidacy be considered "sedition"?

Yes.

The layers of paint and spackle will never hide the fact that Hillary is a grifter.

The masque of command?

Which should teach us something, because JFK was, in reality, a pretty sick man.

But we don't learn.

Remember the lipstick craze that was set off by Monica Lewinsky's lips during her Barbara Walters interview?

Club Monaco "Glaze"!

Poor Hillary couldn't relive that moment.

Only women know or care what color teal is. Many of these same women can readily visualize the color mauve. Women are different than men........Hillary can take a good picture. You just have to take enough of them.

If this had occurred with a southern evangelical woman & a Republican candidate, the press would be hammering home what superstitious clods the both of them are. "What sort of nitwit needs to pray before they open a make-up kit?" would be the question.

But they're Democrats, so, nevermind.

The way they cropped that photo invites you to think you're looking at the lower half of a classic beehive.

Yes about the radio listeners and their focus on the logic and merits of Nixon's arguments. But to show you the power of the MSM opinion-makers, these very same people were re-polled a few weeks later (after which the MSM "analysts"--all of whom had watched the debate on tv--had had time to widely enveigh against Nixon in newspaper opinion pieces, TV, etc.) and a majority of the radio listeners polled reversed themselves and agreed with the MSM that JFK had actually "won."

Image over substance...and susceptibility to the power of authority figures and "experts."

I think my mother had some kind of a makeup mirror where she could adjust the light for daytime, office, or evening. It was small enough you could put it on a desk or a table.

She also had hair curlers that would heat up in some kind of an electric mini-oven kind of thing that sat on the bathroom counter right by the sink. Nothing tragic happened, that I recall.

She also had some kind of a steam-generating contraption that you put your face into. I tried it to see if it would improve my teenage acne. It didn't.

I am amazed at how much Hillary has aged in the past 7 years. She stopped Botoxing I guess.
