"A Six-Figure Settlement on Campus Free Speech."

"On Thursday, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign reached a settlement with Steven Salaita, a professor who had a job offer revoked by the school after he tweeted incendiary statements about Israel during the country’s war with Hamas in Gaza last summer."

Good thing the tax payers are so generous. What is that maybe the federal loans for 2 or 3 students?

Another grievance studies professor. They need to shut this shit down.

There is no reason to go to college if you ain't gonna suffer differential equations.

Can't open the Chicago Trib article.

Were the two lawsuits breach of contract and civil rights?

Insanity disguised as Higher learning is like a cancer spreading faster and faster while there is still hope to beat the race to January, 2017 while hope remains for the insane to get in on the ground floor of the Neo-Communist Ruling Party.

Actually, I think Illinois got rid of this foul man rather cheaply. Imagine all the damage he would have inflicted upon the young people of Illinois had he been given a forum.

The 600K should come out of the budget of the department who initially made him the job offer.

I suspect the insurance company decided to settle for whatever reason it chose.

Without getting focused on the content of his remarks, it surprises me that the court simply didn't order the university to hire him.

Reveals himself as an anti-semite and they fire him? What's going on over there? That's normally the stuff of promotions.

Doubtful any insurance coverage for that lawsuit.

But it is not the university's employee's money, so it is free.

"campus free speech" "The decision to revoke the job offer from Salaita, who had quit his previous job, sold his house, and moved to Illinois, ignited another round of outrage among free-speech activists and those in academia who saw the encroachment of partisan politics into an academic appointment."

That outrage stops when the free speech is critical of gays, blacks, immigration..."

And this asshole is in Beirut now? Hmmm.

For progressivists/multiculturists, its all about the totem pole and Jews are at the bottom. You can say whatever the hell you want about Jews and its OK, especially if the speaker is someone significantly higher up on the totem poll. Jews and east asians (also near the bottom), frustratingly, keep on voting for the same types of assholes who have created and worship this totem poll.

Perfect example of the totem poll in action in of all places Brandeis (article by Dershowitz) -- http://www.jpost.com/Opinion/A-Brandeis-student-refuses-to-show-sympathy-for-assassinated-policemen-and-her-critic-is-attacked-385996. Switch the races of the students and you get a 180 degree different result.

Don't give them extra money, take it from the budget of the department that hired him. Make the radicals feel the pain.

What "Campus Free Speech"?

I wonder if administrators at public universities sometimes forget that they are representatives of the state. For example, look at this public statement from the UIUC chancellor: "What we cannot and will not tolerate at the University of Illinois are personal and disrespectful words or actions that demean and abuse either viewpoints themselves or those who express them." Let's substitute "the State" for "we": "What the State cannot and will not tolerate are personal and disrespectful words or actions that demean and abuse either viewpoints themselves or those who express them." The second one sounds like it could have been written by the Kremlin.

I hope conservative profs all over the country print out the judgment and send it to their college presidents with a note informing them that if they try this bullshit with them, it will be a costly mistake.

I recall stories about the shouting down and intimidation of pro-Israel students at universities in the US, and I certainly hope the pro-Israel students demand their administrations break out the checkbooks for the equally egregious treatment they have received.

Sauce for the goose and all, don'tchaknow.
