"Animals have no place in art."

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals wrote to the artist who sat — for 23 days in a Paris art museum — on a nest of chicken eggs until they hatched.
"There is nothing to celebrate in the birth of this chick born alone in a museum," the organisation said in an open letter to the artist. Considered merely as a part of an 'artistic' performance, it will never meet its mother. ...."
What do you think of PETA's criticism of the "human hen" artist?

Which came first? The chicken or the artist?

Eat Mor Chikin.

I believe Peta is a dipping sauce for those hard to find fingers of chikin?

You forgot to include an option piggybacking off the old Kissinger quote: Can't they both lose?!

I think it's PETA bad from an organization of bad eggs.

Don't use animals in art. It's ethically wrong.

Who's gonna tell Buñuel?

Happy Earth Day!

Never stand between PETA and a press release. It's like standing between Chuck Schumer and a camera.

I never thought I would agree with PETA on anything - until this.

Who hatched that press release? As for animals having no place in art, I guess I'll have to bleach my eyes having seen way too many oil paintings of dogs, horses, cats, and cows hanging in art museums.

Yes. PETA butter sauce.

Same comment as the Bruce Jenner thread:

One of the downsides to the amazing prosperity and security the USA has known since WW2 is that we tolerate nonsense like this. These issues don't fly when you are worried about where your next meal is coming from. But we live in a world where the biggest health problem for the poor is obesity.

I didn't know chickens hatch in 23 days. Learn something every day!

I did know that the gestation periods for cattle and humans are almost exactly the same.

Did somebody ask Peter Singer? He is a PETA guiding light who wrote that fucking a chicken was ethical if the chicken consented. Maybe PETA objects because the eggs haven't hatched yet.

The United States was the birthplace of the Non-Governmental Political Cult -- a shrine to a self-perpetuating pile of cash, run by people who are answerable to no one. Have you seen PETA's headquarters in Norfolk Virginia? It's the grandest most modern office building in the city, with the prettiest location. If you see it, you know that it's all about the money. They're sitting, there, just waiting to catch the estates of the country's rich old cat ladies. They're worthless and disgusting.

(Damn I'm hungry. I'm going to the diner for an omelet.)

I'd be more impressed if the artist actually laid the eggs instead of stealing them from a hen.

Not only bad art. Just really stupid.

#5 A stunt is not art, else chickens are better artists than humans.

If an artist does it, it's art.

If it's in a museum, it's art.

If an artist does it in a museum, it's definitely art.

There's a lot of bad art. Analyze that. The question whether "it's art" is silly.

Oh the horror.....at least it wasn't aborted.

How much do you want to bet that if the "artist" were breaking eggs instead, and said it was in support of a woman's right to an abortion, he'd be celebrated?

My grandfather's picture of dogs playing poker is considered a family heirloom.

If PETA had said anything at all about that Jeff Koons piece featuring a calf in formaldehyde divided laterally, they might have had some species of point. As it is, there's probably no human being, including Kim Jong Un, who I dislike more than Ingrid Newkirk. Her idea of the "ethical treatment" of feral cats is to hoover them up, keep them on nominal "adoption" display for a week, and then suck the air out of their lungs and throw them in Dumpsters. Because, songbirds. Or voles. Or something. A feral cat is a wild animal and should be treated as such.

Yes, a prairie dog.

There is something to be said about theocratic monarchies based on obsolete social systems. The art was much better. It was so much better as to exist in a different dimension, that we can no longer even imagine. Certainly not artistically.

I might appreciate the gravity of the situation if some hot Parisian chicks protested topless.

"His big dream, however, is to walk on the clouds.
"I have been working on it for five years, but it is not quite there yet," he said.

You do need a selection on most of these. "E: I do not give a crap"

Quaestor thinks everyone involved in this controversy has laid one or more eggs entirely by his own effort.

The minions of ASS (the Anti-Sanders Society) can relax.

What was the question again? The wife is busy scrambling eggs for breakfast and baking an artist, sorry, that's not what I meant, a chicken for lunch.
