Who will challenge Governor Scott Walker in 2018?

Could it be Madison Mayor Paul Soglin?!
Madison Mayor Paul Soglin said Saturday that he’s considering seeking the Democratic nomination for governor in 2018....

It marked a reversal for Soglin, who said in December he had “no interest” in challenging Walker.... Soglin said the surprising appeal of U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, particularly in Wisconsin, is part of what changed his mind....

Soglin could win the primary the same way Bernie Sanders did: by running against Hillary Clinton.

Better question is who is going to lose to walker.

Milwaukee mayor Tom Barrett.

Ok, if not Tom Barrett then Outagamie County Executive Tom Nelson.

Who was that jagoff that ordered the baby deer taken to an animal shelter put to death? Because rules.

I don't know. Hard to see Wisconsin electing a Madison (as opposed to a run-of-the-mill) liberal.

Darrell,

WHAT?!?!?!?!?

I have been told that Charlie Sykes may be the most important person in the world and that I MUST care about his opinions.

Honestly I think Scott Walker should not run for re-election. 2 terms is enough to have made an impact and I don't like professional politicians. Let Walker make a living in the private sector.

Has a Democratic mayor of Madison ever been elected governor of Wisconsin?

Not sure if Wisconsinites would go for all the Madison-style gun control that Soglin would foist. That's a huge difference between Soglin and Sanders.

He could win. It's a long way from the counterculture.

Soglin. Who wants their governor named Soglin!

Soggy Soglin.

Hopefully no one.

Wisconsin deserves nothing less than the boring, underachieving, bought-and-paid for chump Scott Walker.

A boring, underachieving, underwhelming governor for a boring and underwhelming state.

That should be his motto. He'd win in a landslide.

Unachieving? I wish Walker would come to California and be as unachieving here as he has been in Wisconsin. Balanced budgets. The public unions finally on a leash. Public schools in position to improve. Taxes starting to rationalize.

50 governor Walkers and the US would be in a far better position.

It makes sense to think that the way for the Democratic Party to rebuild itself is by seeming like Bernie Sanders in terms of social and environmental values and then layering in practical, business-oriented economics. Soglin could do that.

They could, but they won't. They haven't lost enough yet. Are you so unhappy with Walker so soon?

With the kind of shitty economic growth that only a Republican could love!

Republicans have about as good a track record governing as monkeys do piloting airplanes.

Minnesota doing better under Dayton than Wisconsin under Walker

Perhaps you could get World Renowned Milwaukee Talk Radio Star And Sole Intellectual Leader of the Conservative Movement Charlie Sykes to convince Dayton to run in Wisconsin?

But I get your point: Walker has no possible path to electoral victory in 2018. You can bank on that!

I live in western Wisconsin, and if you asked anyone around here who Paul Soglin was, nobody would have a clue. Madison is a long way from most of Wisconsin. Same thing goes for Milwaukee or anyone running that city.

Birkel said...

Yes, indeed.
Why can't all states be as well run as Connecticut.

Or maybe Illinois.

Leftists are awesome.

AllenS has a good point: Soglin has practically no visibility outside of Madison. Look, I know he's practically a rockstar in Madison and I've been a Soglin watcher from the beginning when he defeated Bill Dyke (I used to live in Middleton). Now that I think of it, has Paul Soglin ever left Madison? Is he even known in Milwaukee? He'll need Milwaukee to balance Walkershau Co. Just ask Inga.

"For 13 years, CEO Magazine has been ranking business-friendly states, and for most of that time, Wisconsin was near the bottom. It started to rise up the ranking a few years ago.

In 2010, the year Walker won the election, Wisconsin ranked 41st, but by by 2014 it had moved up to 14th. This May, it hit the top 10."

Inga, if you're unhappy with Walker you can always move south to the progressive paradise that is Illinois.
