Untitled.

DSC03667.JPG

ADDED: I seems to be susceptible to technical glitches. Blogger's been changed so that hitting some button -- what is it? -- has become a publish command, and I keep publishing posts I'm not done with. And my wireless service is purely intermittent these days. I suspect Charter Communications lacks the infrastructure to support the users in my neighborhood. I can get service in the early morning, because I'm up before most people. Then, predictably, it cuts out, maybe to return at some stray point in the day before cutting out again. Very irritating. I have to go to a café whenever I want to go on line.

But what is this post about? "Untitled." It's about nothing, apparently. It exists to be a post where a post is needed. A placeholder post. Some nice heather. I hope it makes you feel good. Now there's a whole new comments section, so I guess I should say: Talk about whatever you want.

Heather? I think you need to ask a wise Muscovite to identify this plant.

OK, I'll start: why "Untitled"? Why do you chose to give that name to your photo, instead of naming your work something that would be more representative of the photograph?

I've been to many art exhibitions, and have seen many photos displayed with that same name. I can understand titling a painting "Untitled"- especially if you are working within an abstract expressionist, color field, or other modernist aesthetic, where having a representative name would conflict with the non-representational nature of the work.

But photography is by its nature inherently representational. (Unless you are specifically trying to make it not so, such as by intentionally distorting the focus or experimenting with print development/photoshop, which you don't seem to be doing in your work.)

So what about the name "Untitled" appeals to you in titling your picture as such?

(BTW, I am a composer/songwriter, and have never created a work with the name "Untitled" or even a generic name like "Symphony". So I'm just curious about your thought process.)

I had a similar experience with my cable internet access. It turned out to be line noise. I had too many splits in the line from outside to the cable modem. They replaced the old splitters with new ones and it all worked great. I didn't have the problem until more people in my neighborhood got cable internet.

Don't know if this is related but I had some scary technical glitches watching the vlogs -- literally scary, like horror-movie dissolves in which your face decayed and then reconstituted itself. AGH!

Amba - I see those too. I think it's whenever there's a cut, for some reason it takes a few moments for the video to reorient itself. It makes it look like Ann's a T1000. ;)

Russian Sage - Perovskia atriplicifolia

"I guess I'm a fair heather friend," she sagely said.

So you're saying that's not heather? I have a friend who has that growing in her yard and she calls it heather....

Just one more technical glitch.

You know I just photograph plants. I don't really know much about them. Sometimes I check the labels.

Keep photographing plants and don't worry about naming them. Some of us enjoy this little game.

Speaking of flowers, a very nice post from a local blogger on Lady Bird Johnson's funeral.

I belive that flower is lavender, not heather . . . could be wrong though.

Russian sage for sure. Expansive, domineering -- a real tough act. Good if you need to fill spaces.

Perhaps you have mentioned this, but I can't find it on the blog.

What camera do you use?

Thank you!
