"What is astonishing to me is that the fashion industry is allowing these people to become important."

"These people," meaning bloggers.

Idiot.

Meanwhile, Manolo loves Manolo.

As a factopath, I don't understand any of it.

You have to be careful with plaids, is all I know.

Although, the fashion industry is filled with self-absorbed, media hungry snobs, it IS a very important worldwide industry.

"Bloggers" = unwashed masses who should not be accepted in the elite's circles.

We seem to hear that from all quarters of the guardians of the status quo, in politics, fashion ,probably other areas.

Me, I don't do fashion.

Well, sales of women's clothing are down six percent, so they have to blame somebody don't they?

It couldn't be the crappy economy, after all.....nah.

"But my dear, you'll look simply mah-velous when you're wearing that cute new dress and that smashing fur coat and high heels while you're carrying the boxes out of your foreclosed-on house!"

No. It isn't the economy driving down women's clothing purchases. It is the fact that the clothes just plain suck. They are ugly styles in ugly unflattering colors in disgusting fabrics and that are designed for a human body shape that doesn't exist in the real world.

I go stores like Macy's hoping to find something professional that I can wear to my office and leave disappointed and disgusted.

What woman in her right mind want to wear this! http://www1.macys.com/catalog/product/index.ognc?ID=283305&CategoryID=120&LinkType=EverGreen and pay $138 to look like she's about to give birth.

The economy is just fine... the selections that the designers foist on us are terrible.

I either make my own clothes or pay a seamstress to make them for me. I wouldn't dress a dog in those outfits.

There is nothing like someone criticizing bloggers to unite the left and right blogosphere. Thats prelude to saying I find myself in agreement with alpha liberal!

Roger, it is a little disorienting, this agreement, but also fleeting!

Here, I'll say something controversial:
Happy Holidays!

And Merry Christmas to you, AL! :)

As a connoisseur and sometimes vacant admirer of the fashion industry, I am constantly reminded of the filament of malignant narcissism that sometimes courses through this particular industry as a whole. Nothing says self-indulgence, excessive and vacuous wasting of time, money, and talent than seeing a fashion designers foist crap onto the clothing racks of America. The same tired and regurgitated seasonal nonsense.

I'm also reminded of the irony that willowy and lithe models or as I call them, human coat hangers are the supposed pretty ones, while they are fitted by their ugly creators. Behind the scenes, from designers, fashion editors, and publishers, these people are as ugly and as washed up as you'll get. Seriously, just not good looking people at all.

But I do have to say, my favorite fashionista is Tim Gunn. I love that guy and have been a big fan of his over the years. Meticulous, primp and proper, with a style and a bearing that is sophisticated and simple. Another guy I'm a big fan of Brian Ferry. He was an icon for me.

Will Calvin Klein, Tom Ford, Vera Wang, Tommy Hilfiger, Josie Natori, Giorgio Armani, Marc Jacobs, Ralph Lauren, and Carolina Herrera please step forward.
Yes, methadras, that is an ugly washed up bunch.
That's some ax you're grinding there!

It's a big ax when it comes to fashion, but remember, I also mentioned others in the industry besides just the designers. However, Calvin Klein looks pretty damn good for what he does at his age. I don't hold him in that particular company. Vera Wang? No dear, she just won't do. Better to stay on the other side of the camera and produce beautiful wedding dresses and evening wear. Tom Ford, I love his clothing lines, but he's marginally good looking. He always looks unkept and looks like he needs a shower. Mr. Hilfiger, GAH!!! no no no.

Josie Natori, again, beautiful product, not so beautiful designer. Vera Wang catergory. Definitely not Ralph Loren. I've met him before on a couple of occasions. A very nice man, has a dizzying car collection that I would just cream myself to even walk through. Makes the definite All-American clothing line of bourgeois east coast yuppies and is richer than dirt, but is short and not really attractive. His wife is lovely however.

Caroline Herrara is a phenomenal designer and an attractive woman. However, she is approaching the age of where she is on the teetering cusp of beauty vs. matronly handsomeness. I'm talking about people like Helen Gurley brown, feminist fashionista that could only get attention because she started Cosmopolitan magazine. Just not attractive, then nor now. Terrible shame. Has good taste, some of the time, but just stay out of the spot light. Please.

And that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

You should also never mix plaids with tweeds either. Disgusting.

Dust Bunny Queen, if you are ever in Brooklyn, I can hook you up at my wife's shop. Of course we specialize in 10-28 so you might not be in our size range, but we could figure something out.

It would appear the fashion experts are behind the season: gatekeepers are SO out. Perhaps they're simply afraid that few people sitting at home in their "pajamas" will expose what a farce the fashion "experts" are.

Short-sighted too. Ann's blogging of Project Runway cultivated my interest in fashion [and I love Tim Gunn]. Wouldn't it be ironic if some blog commenter who never cared for fashion became captivated by the industry through blogs [not me though] and became the next Tim Gunn?

Echo Dust Bunny's comment - it appears that better feedback is EXACTLY what the fashion industry needs.

You would be surprised Fen. When we go to the trade shows to buy fashion forward clothes for "normal" sized women (10-24), we get nothing but bullshit stories. The level of condescion and scorn is off the charts. It is all I can do not to go Ike Turner on their ass. This is a market that is crying out to be serviced, but these fashion douche bags don't have a fucking clue. These so caller experts are morons, pure and simple. (Sorry for the rant).

Well, from what little I've seen of the "artists" during the Runway episodes, I would say these are not the most mentally stable people to begin with.

Trooper York said...

That's true, but you would think that businessmen would want to tap a market that is out there ready to go. It's almost impossible to find stylish clothes for the larger sizes that are not "old lady" clothes. I tell them, no sweaters with bunnies dude, no "hang in there" T-shirts, let's do something real and young and funky. It's a real uphill battle although we have collected most of the best styles in the US and Canada, but it's like pulling teeth. Fashion people are fucked up.
