Rehnquist, born of lake effect snow just north of Milwaukee.

John Roberts has snow balls. Until the mid 1980's snow did not stop work schedules around here. Ice storms with power outages did, but snow was taken in stride. Coming economic storm days may again see people want to keep working to get money and eat another day. Pray for the sources of income of your children to continue.

This approach favors red state parties who clearly are tougher and more able to make it to the court than are their blue state metrosexual opponents.

Rehnquist was once late to opening day of the Supreme Court due to his cat throwing up on the carpet. He had to help his wife clean it up.

A real man helps his wife clean up cat puke.

Rehnquist and Roberts both grew up in snow belts. Why should they fear snow?

It'll be interesting to see what happens when the CJ is someone from, say, Atlanta or Richmond, towns that fold up and close like cheap card tables at the first whisper of a possible flurry in the forecast.

Renquist is a Swedish surname. I wonder if Swedish Lutherans have a kind of genetic memory of the Little Ice Age, and how they "weathered" it.

It would seem that Roberts would not have that genetic memory, but I give him credit for following the sled tracks down the steep slopes of Lutheran jurisprudence.

Maybe not genetic memory but he must have a realtime memory having been born in Buffalo NY.

Guess who is scheduled to have a big deal in DC today?

Al Gore

Every place this guy goes to pimp his global warming hysteria, the weather turns unseasonably cold.

Al? Take a hike, loser.

I'm sorry but that's why I have accumulated over 200 hours of PTO (paid time off) so that on a day like today I could stay home.

Bonus.. I get to listen to Rush.

It isn't that we're afraid to drive in the snow--we're afraid of all the other idiots who don't know how to drive in snow.

Also, our snow tends to be wetter and more slippery and refreezes into ice.

We hit 70 degrees on Friday, then it rained a couple inches before it snowed. Lows in the teens expected.

So he dug out his own driveway and drove himself to work?

Of course not! Someone else dug out his driveway and his driver took him to work.

Oh, what a manly man!!

I know on this blog, Obama is evil, but today your government was open partially because the last time we got snow, Obama made fun of DC and called us lightweights. This time, the government had liberal leave in effect. If it had been any other time under any other administration, the government would have been shut 100%.

The Supreme court would have still been open - that's the point of the story Althouse's title references. So shut down 2/3 at most.

Bingo.

By the way, there's another side to the story about Rehnquist's keeping the court open that day told in Jan Greenburg's book: Scalia and Kennedy, who struggled to make it into DC together from their Virginia suburb with Carter Phillips, thought that the decision was nuts.
