Reminds me of Mary Oliver's poem Picking Blueberries, Asterlitz, New York, 1957

Nothing quite bums like doing a long hike and encountering a big meadow in the woods full of blueberries, but maybe a week from being ripe. (though there is the consolation of always finding a few early ripeners).

OK, finding a meadow full of ripe blueberries just starting picking - and being disturbed by the snorting and standing on hind legs - of a sow black bear with cubs, who shows up. You just stop and take a prompt, quiet walk the heck away.

It is 80 f and 60% humidity in Atlanta, which is September weather down here. Where is Summer gone? I read that the SEC is treating California IOUs as securities needing registration. So that young man on a bloggingheads 2 weeks ago had a point. Money is whatever we accept as money, UNLESS it is illegalized by the Government monopoly on money creation. All the loose government money needed to start creative businesses and jobs is MIA, and the Democrats want to take whats left to pretend to control the effect of the sun's warmth (which has already changed back to cool all by itself). Heck, fake TV wrestling promoters have more respect for their customers than the current Criminal Conspiracy calling itself Democrats and their accomplices calling themselves News Reporters.

High bush berries are easier to pick however low bush berries have better taste!

Not so true in life, sad to say.

I recall picking in the bogs of Black Moshannon State Park as a youngster. Blueberry pancakes in the winter was the reward.

That's a beautiful photo. You should have it printed large and frame it for your home.

Aint' it the truth. Had 3 at the same time. Fill the fridge after the morning grocery store trip. Fridge half empty by the next morning. Repeat.

I just read a wonderful little blog post that's sure to set the online community abuzz.

Who is this young lady-blogger who writes such clever prose, and so wise beyond her years ?

Nice job, Chip.

A 35 ft holly tree out back gets denuded of red berries by robins in a single day late every winter. I always look forward to the Great Robin Feast.

Did you all see the debate over whether Michelle Obama was carrying a $6K or a $900 clutch in Moscow? Very good looking bag, in any case. The debate reminds me of my friend falling in love with an $8K bag she saw in Vegas. Her husband insisted she wait and see what their jeweler here in Baltimore could get it for. She paid less than $3K, but told our little group of friends she only paid $600. Everyone was still outraged that she spent that much for a bag. Never a good idea, is it, to tell people what we spend on our objects of love?

Wow, I really just posted some revealing activities I did as a youngster on this blog.

No need to thank me fellow republicans.

I started my day by washing a quart of blueberries in anticipation of having some with milk and sugar.

Sometimes simpler is better. I popped them one at a time into my mouth until they were all gone.

Tg, we should all be watching closely as California attempts to resolve their "OMG, NO MORE MONEY" issues. We have many more states riding on their coattails, and that doesn't even take into consideration all the states out there with morosely underfunded public pension plans that they have hiding in their attic trunks for now.

So do you think we need a new Bankrupt State Czar?

Penny.

And most liberals think California is a good model for how a government should be run.

This Philly swim club's decision to revoke the membership of a largely black day camp is despicable considering their president's statement that they were concerned about the "complexion" of the facility. Their attempt to claim that the decision had nothing to do with race in light of the president's statement is shameful.

1. One of the major contributing factors to CA's problems has been MassiveImmigration. You won't hear anyone in the establishment discussing that, including hack bloggers. Not only has it increased spending, but it's given more power to the far-left, and they've used that additional power to push for more spending. When you see someone discussing CA's problems without mentioning that, call them on it. For a recent example, see my discussion of a Joel Kotkin article. He was recently a guest of Instapundit (link) but, since I don't have two seconds much less twenty minutes to waste on PJTV I didn't watch it. Maybe someone else can confirm whether he and Reynolds misled about CA's problems or not.

2. Speaking of the Professor, I don't think he's promoting violence, but he definitely is promoting some form of street confrontation between his Army of Dumb Davids and the far-left (link). I can't adequately explain how dumb that is, but things like, "That blowed up real good" and Idiocracy come to mind. If just one of those people would really press a politician a series of difficult questions on video it would have a far greater impact than waving loopy signs. Obviously, they aren't smart enough to do that.

3. Shouldn't those who claim for a fact that BHO was born in HI be clear on which hospital he was born in? Yet, Wikipedia, Snopes, and even Obama himself have named two entirely separate hospitals.

I haven't looked into it, but it looks like what you've heard about the swim club is false.

Things I'm starting to believe about Michael Jackson:

He never was a pedophile and never did anything criminal to a child.

His life and career were ruined by opportunists who used false accusations to maliciously extort millions of dollars from him.

Martin Bashir is a bad man.

Michael Jackson suffered from extreme vitiligo from childhood and he never purposefully changed his skin color.

His switch from dark make-up to light make-up was perfectly reasonable and happened only after the vast majority of his skin had lost pigment.

His change in appearance was mostly not his fault. Skin disease, a burn injury, and a botched nose job led to corrective procedures that never fully restored him to his previous condition. He just tried desperately to come up with a look that worked with his disfigurement.

He was murdered. He was deliberately allowed to die.

Darn, Sy. I seem to be all out of cookies. They go fast! Don't worry. Sit down, and please, make yourself comfortable. I'll just take a few from next door. Jane won't mind at all. She still bakes every day. Can you imagine?

Penny, we used to freeze the blueberries first. Then the milk would freeze onto them. Grandma's lake cottage didn't have A/C. Or TV. Or bathtubs or hot water. But it had a deep freezer.

MJ used his credit card to buy skin bleach by the case - sure he had vitiligo, but you don't need that much skin bleach unless you are going to use it. That was intentional.

Why would a wealthy non-pedophile pay a reported $20 million to a non-victim? It would make more sense to use that money to defend one's innocence, assuming one is innocent. Once that flood gate was opened, he was fair game for any prosecutor who thought that taking young boys to bed was not good behavior. And MJ continued to take young boys to bed, and his secret bedroom was alarmed to allow everyone inside to know when adults were approaching. Even if innocent, that is not behavior that a smart man would engage in.

With as many facial surguries as he had (cheek implants, chin implant, eye reshaping, countless nose jobs) he clearly didn't like the way he looked. Once again, not smart, and in this case, not sane. And absolutely, his "fault".

And junkies who don't shoot up themselves can always blame someone else for their "murder".

Nice job completely absolving MJ from any adult responsibility, CAC, but maybe someday you will grow up and understand that not everyone is a victim.

Lonewacko, "what [I've] heard about the swim club is false"? Apparently, you don't have a clue what I heard about the swim club, since you didn't bother reading the article I linked. There were no major points of difference between the articles linked to from freep. Also, note that freep managed to cherry pick points from the various articles linked which portrayed the swim club the best while ignoring the complaints of the day campers. Maybe you ought to look into a story before claiming something as false.

Yes, if I'm paying membership to a club, I would be upset if the club started selling out too many time slots for group events. Part of the benefit of a membership is the ability to use the facilities at your leisure, but if the managers of the club start overcrowding the time slots with group events, I would feel I was being cheated.

However, all of the articles I've read indicate that several students overheard racist remarks, and the club's president made the statement that "There was concern that a lot of kids would change the complexion . . . and the atmosphere of the club." Even the freep-linked articles didn't dispute these points, though you wouldn't know it by reading their recap.

Now I don't think the president's remarks necessarily reflect his opinion. Rather, I think he was voicing the opinions several members shared with him, along with their opinions on overcrowding. My point is that you can't say race wasn't involved once you state yourself that it was.

In any case, these kids were treated by some members of the club as unwelcome explicitly based on race, and that's a bad trend to set. Intentionally isolating people based on race gives them good cause to assume that they are not really welcome. And that only exacerbates racial conflict in this country. The behavior of the club (or at least a few members) needs to be soundly condemned if we are to avoid stoking racial tensions.

Kylos said...

Quotes from freepers about the article:

"Even if it happened exactly as they said it did, so what?"

I get the private club aspect, but (as it did happen very much like it has been reported) this racially motivated behavior ought to be condemned or we risk further stoking racial tensions in our nation. And that's good for nobody.

"Pretty soon, help won’t come when the boy cries *racism*."

Using racially charged terms to make an invalid point. Nice.

"Coulda been worse. Coulda been 60 MOSLEM kids."

An equal opportunity offender.

GM has now emerged from bankruptcy, quicker than anyone ever thought possible. Please enlighten us, professor, about what, if anything, is wrong with the actual outcome?

My bet is that you absolutely nothing substantive to back up your original post.

However, all of the articles I've read indicate that several students overheard racist remarks, and the club's president made the statement that "There was concern that a lot of kids would change the complexion . . . and the atmosphere of the club."

I'm almost hesitant to wade into this one, but isn't it possible that the "complexion" of the club could simply mean a suddenly greater proportion of kids to adults and not something sinister? The word "complexion" doesn't just refer to skin color, after all (though in this context, that was a poor choice of words by the club president, especially if he meant something else.)

Sure, there's no denying that racism still exists, but there's also no denying that there are people out there who see racism at every turn, whether it's real or not. (And the fact that some campers may have heard some racist comments shouldn't allow the entire club to be painted with such a broad brush.)
