"Brewers, Badgers send fans to sports nirvana."

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel headline:
Brewer blue and Badger red, part of the lifeblood of Wisconsin sports, and part of what may be the state's greatest sports weekend....
In the afternoon:
[T]he Brewers opened the National League Division Series with a thrilling 4-1 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks... with terrific pitching from Brewers starter Yovani Gallardo and a two-run homer by Prince Fielder.
In the evening:
... Wisconsin gave a Big Ten football welcome to Nebraska in a blowout win, 48-17....

Wisconsin fans wore red. Nebraska fans wore black....

Once the game started, Wisconsin's students and fans transformed Camp Randall into a rough sea of red. There were plenty of black shirts among the 81,384 in the stands, but Nebraska fans were outnumbered and overwhelmed to the same degree that their beloved Cornhuskers were outplayed.
The greatest weekend continues:
On Sunday, there's another doubleheader, the Green Bay Packers against the Denver Broncos at Lambeau Field at 3:15 p.m. and the Brewers against the Diamondbacks at Miller Park at 4:07 p.m.

Nebraska fans wore black is a metaphor or a simile or something for surely Nebraska fans wore red too, true?

It's like that weekend in the 70's (1977?) when Wisconsin won the NCAA hockey tournament on Saturday evening and then the following Monday evening Marquette won the NCAA hoops tournament. Everyone, still seriously hung over, piled into cars on Sunday and headed to Milwaukee to party in the bars near the Marquette campus. I seem to remember The Avalanche, and being corrected by Marquette students, who referred to it as The 'Lanche.

The Packers will blow away the hapless Broncos today to complete the picture. The Brewers? Dunno.

Their defense is nicknamed the Blackshirts. And yes, many were wearing red. There were also a few of us Badgers wearing black (me, b/c that's just the color of my coat).

The traffic between Miller Park and Madison was heavier than we expected. Today, we're couching it with the radio and tv.

That Wisconsin Badger team was something else yesterday. I was not expecting that.

Not a metaphor. They wanted to stand out from the Wisconsin fans, so they adopted black as their color, even though their *slogan* is about red. We have better slogans in Wisconsin, and we'd never cede our color to the other side. That's such a beta move.

The Brewers logo is a combination of a baseball glove and a beer mug? Or Is that only my imagination?

Who cares when the Hogs beat the Aggies! Welcome to the SEC folks (maybe, don't know if that's a done deal yet).

Yes, but the Nebraska defense is called the Blackshirts. More on that here.

Wisconsin played amazing, but man Nebraska was surprisingly terrible. Taylor Martinez is not a QB.

Does Lincoln have a permanent protest class?

Sports nirvana?

It's horribly ignorant, chauvinistic, and probably racist to use "nirvana" as a synonym for "heaven." Nirvana is a state of detachment from worldly concerns, which I doubt very much describes the feelings of Wisconsin sports fanatics right now.

Shame on the MSJ! Shame on Wisconsin's deeply racist society! Shame!

And NASCAR! We want to see Wisconsin's Matt Kenseth win at the Dover Mile.

This Husker fan congratulates the Badgers great play last night. They were clearly the better team.

given the double Brewers win, the Packers win and the Badgers win, and the fantastic weather, I deem this past weekend almost perfect.
