"Let her make any miserable 'jokes' on social media while watching the games on TV."

"She definitely cannot represent Greece in London."

She couldn't jump high enough to clear the third rail of politics.

Here's her joke: "With so many Africans in Greece, the West Nile mosquitoes will be getting home food!!!".

What's racist about that?

It's always a little dicey, edgy, to joke about disease; and this isn't really very funny, just more cutesy than funny.

But racist? Piffle.

Damn, one less reason to watch the summer Olympics.

Racist? Really? Maybe if she weren't so darned blonde, it wouldn't have sounded racist.

I don't know anything about Greece, but perhaps Golden Dawn is the racist piece?

It'll be interesting to see if Dahlia Lithwick does a follow-up covering this.

I'm not sure that the tweet in question is racist. I'm pretty sure it's not funny.

I think it's her support of right-leaning political parties that got her in hot water.

This is why my twitter and facebook accounts include very little about my politics. Why look for trouble?

I left this comment over there a few minutes ago:

Somehow, I don't think she is referring to the Greek triple jumper tossed out of the Games over a politically incorrect Twitter joke.

Why look for trouble?

Do you secretly write in your notebook with the smooth, cream-colored pages?

In blue or blue-black ink.

Moral of the story is if you are in the public eye avoid social media unless you very tight message control abilities.

Bet they'd reconsider if she offered to pay her own way.

What's the racial tension like in Greece?
I think that joke wouldn't cause much trouble in the US, but with Greece's unemployment rate, it might.

Count me among those who fail to see what the big deal is. Not a racist joke; just an ethnic one.

More PC run amok. Mustn't say anything about "people of color!" Actually she was only reflecting the obvious Elephant in the room that NO ONE want's to acknowledge..

Greece has values?

Meanwhile, in an alternate universe:

Commenting on the widely reported appearance of Mississippi-virus-carrying mosquitoes in Athens, Papachristou wrote: "With so many Americans in Greece, the Mississippi mosquitoes will be getting home food!!!". Her tweet was ignored and forgotten altogether by Wednesday.

Thank god the Olympics isn't about politics and only about athletic competition... err... wait....

Yet another example of the corruption of the Olympic Games. I don't watch the winter Olympics at all and watch very little of the summer Games. Government bureaucrats suck. Everyone knows this. Why are they put in charge of anything?

Why are the political views of athletes of any concern to anyone? Why would her political views get her into trouble for the Olympics? The fact that you think this might even be okay shows just how twisted your reality has become. You're normalizing the idea that it's okay to punish people and deny people opportunity based on political ideas.

Grow up!

Marvelous job at interpreting my words to suit your purpose. Whether or not it's a view I hold is irrelevant I guess.

Since the traditional power wielding hereditary European aristocracy burnt up in the flames of WWI, these parasites have had to find other ways to control the commoners and have their egos stroked. The various Olympic committees seem to have attracted more than a few of these petty tyrants. I have long felt that at heart they believe that the games are held for their benefit rather than the athletes. They treat them with the same arbitrary discipline as the anonymous cannon fodder that filled the ranks in centuries past.

Twitter is forever. She had better get a new identity fast, like Obama does when the polling winds shift.

Well, a lot of people think the games are more that athletic competition between countries.

There's that Olympic spirit stuff, all twisted up with diversity and comraderie, about putting aside differences and getting along, and extending olive branches and whatnot.

I suspect had she tweeted about how great Hugo Chavez is, she'd still be invited to participate.

Exactly.
MultiKuti and PC are designed to enforce liberal orthodoxy...and not permit differing opinions.

As is right now, Greece, Italy, Israel, and Spain are being swamped by African economic refugees ...many Muslim ....told to move on by Muslim Arabs and the Turks.

Ruth Marcus was writing the other day about the Jewish socialists of Israel being asked to put their money where their mouths are and pay for a flood of African economic refugees and new slums and high crime areas..."and it is being resisted".

I correctly interpreted your words. You even say "Why look for trouble?" as if it were perfectly normal to expel an athlete from a team for political purposes. In other words, my interpretation of your words was spot on and pointing out this out is fully relevant in explaining much of your ridiculous ideology.
