"But Idol is dropping nearly every week and last night was down 50% from its Thursday night premiere this season..."

"... and that’s scary."

They've obviously got themselves to blame, for several reasons, the main one being the desire to make it a "girls" year. Before the voting even started, they'd stacked the deck to exclude a "boyfriend"-type guy for the young girls who watch the show with their parents. "Idol" lost track of idolatry. The girls liked the boys, but somehow that couldn't be permitted to keep happening year after year. But that was the show! Was.

Are there any straight boys who even watch that thing? It should cost you your future man card for life, unless you're gay, and then you should still be ashamed of watching it. You guys are supposed to have more discriminating taste. We all have our roles to play, and this is young girls with heads of mush territory.

And yet the judges this year are so much better, and the voices are great as well. (Well, except for poor Lazaro).

Candice and Kree are awesome.

Too bad they can't think up interesting theme weeks though. Beatles? MoTown?

The problem is the music contestants are allowed to sing. Glee somehow finds a way to secure the rights to current songs (well, except last night) -- but Idol can't?

The allure of any 'reality' show is lost on me - especially a show as bas as 'AI'.

The only people I've known to watch it are women.

Take that anyway you want.

You had a great run. Now it's a quarter past time to bow out as gracefully as you still can.

...and please take The View with you on the way out.

I told you so.

Nicky Minaj will destory "American Idol."

I read on the internet recently that she didn't bother to show up until the middle of one of the shows.

Plus the deliberate move to discriminate against WGWG (White guys with Guitars) is what is helping to destroy the show.

I know that a WGWG won the last five times. But that is what the people who vote want. Why can't they get that instead of a bunch of affirmative action candidates?

Since men & women are equal, there's no difference, then what is the reason?

I can't believe that explanation is right, Ann. Quotas work.

It's still on?

The show that Curtis over-caterwauled himself out of contention and Idol existence is the one that she arrived late for. And then she complained when he was voted off. Not really the middle of the show when she got there. 10 minutes into a 2-hour slot.

I watched it nearly every year until they seemed to switch the focus from giving good advice, etc to being outrageous and making the judges the focus of the show.

Yay. Maybe it will be gone soon.

Well MadisonMan I am sure it was fine for the producers that one of the judges showed up late for a live show.

You see there is EST. CST. MST. PST.

And of course CPT.

If Randy Jackson was up he would say that is racist.

Nicky Minaj will destroy American Idol. Wait and see.

As they say the proof is in the pudding. Sure the ratings the last few years have been propped up by girls watching (and voting for) guy contestants but its largely not translated into a commercial talent emerging from the show. When that happened, and it did, the process could be fun to watch.

If people have talent then they get a career even if they don't win.

See Jennifer Hudson, Daughtry et al.

If they are not the real deal they fade away.

None of the runner ups from the past few years were any good so it is not as if they audience really got it wrong. The talent is just not there.

Idol has given us three big stars.

Kelly Clarkson. Jennifer Hudson. Carrie Underwood.

The other competition shows have come up with nada. Just sayn'

What show was that again?

Should have added: She was late for Curtis' live sing, but then complained when he was booted. Because obvs she didn't have to hear him sing. (shudder) Otherwise she would have applauded the decision.

I actually like Kelly Clarkson. I forget she came from Idol. Nevertheless, I still want it gone.
