The hottest day of the year...

Untitled

... that would be today, here in Madison, Wisconsin. Dare I go out? It's 83.3°F — feels like 89! It might hit 88.

The garden needs rain.

Isn't mid 80's roughly the midwest's average for July?

But yes, when the sun's out and shining down on you like God's own flashlight, it sure does feel pretty darn hot.

I don't know. "The midwest" is a big place.

The average high in Madison in July is 83, with an average low of 60. So the average for all the hours of the day on the average day in July is probably somewhere in the 70s.

And July is the hottest month.

It has been blessedly cool this summer.

How do you handle Austin?

As we say in the southwest:

"But it's a dry heat." "So's an oven."

Enh. Triple digits several days in the last two weeks in Oregon. Western Oregon.

That said, it actually rained this morning. Right now it's a really muggy 80 or so.

Houston right now is 93. Feels like 103. When it gets this hot, I don't care what any woman thinks of a man in shorts. I'm wearing them.

Get a life. Have you any idea what it feels like in the heat and humidity of the Gulf Coast or, for that matter, in the "dry" heat of Vegas.

Mid-80's is cool for here. "Here", being Sacramento, CA. It would also have been "cool" when I lived in northern Illinois.

As a means to the end of handling Madison: in winter.

Oh, no! Now it's 86.9 °F and it feels Like 97 °F.

And I did just venture out for an hour and a half. Walked down the Lake Mendota path to the Union Terrace, where I ate a bowl of mocha chocolate chip Babcock ice cream, got a B-cycle for the return trip up the lake path, then walked the last half mile home. Meade had gone over to Lake Wingra to paddle board with Zeus, but I don't like the midday sun out on the lake. I go for the shady walk, and I keep myself company with an audiobook. Right now I'm in the middle of "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich," and it's the fall of 1938.

Is it just me or does http://althouse.blogspot.com now load much more slowly than before?

There's all those .mookie.com & ad links that seem to take forever now.

Anybody else seeing this?

Just curious - does Zeus get a bath everytime he goes in the lakes or just a washdown?

It was 107* in Lake Geneva when I was there a couple of summers ago. But 83.3? That windows open at night temps here in North Florida.

It's 92 in coastal South Carolina where I am now, but less humid than usual.

Yesterday was our hottest day in Sturgeon Bay--about 88. We've had only a few days over 80. That's great by me, but the people who depend on renting rooms and selling stuff to tourists are not as happy.

Let's hope that is not a metaphor.

Nope, the slow load seems to be an issue with Firefox. Chrome & IE seem to load speedily.

It's sad to see Firefox devolve into bloatware.

The Fuhrer should be fixing to to roll into Austria, Czechoslovakia, and Hungary.

Poland, Denmark, Norway, Belgium, France, Holland, Serbia and Russia, will just have to take a number.

It is so sad to hear that you are suffering from 89F, but you guys have been emitting magic co2 from panting of dogs.

In Atlanta 89F is called another cool day. We have been cloud covered for the last two days.

Ann,

Just be glad that you aren't reading "Moscow 1937." It's worse.

Rinse off and a toweling — especially his ears. I give him a full bath once or twice a month.

"all those .mookie.com & ad links"

What does that refer to?

There's an extra ad at the top of the sidebar. Is there anything else?

Wanna know how it turns out?

I hope to God this isn't your first reading of Shirer. You should not be able to get a college degree without having read Rise and Fall.
