"And for the Russians, frankly, it's time that we punched the Russians in the nose."

Who talks like that?

Kasich.

I noticed that via my son John's live-blog:
10:11 — My mind was starting to wander amid all this foreign policy talk, but then Kasich grabbed my attention by saying: "It's time that we punched the Russians in the nose."

Putin: "You want a piece of this, come and get it."

Yeah, that'd be great. Since he won't be President, I hope Kasich is going to enlist. The answer to that idiot in the White House now is not a fist fight with Russia.

Moron.

That statement is more outrageous than ANYTHING Trump has said.

Russia today makes Obama, Clinton, and Kerry to be fools:

“Gov. Romney, I’m glad you recognize al-Qaida is a threat, because a few months ago when you were asked what is the biggest geopolitical group facing America, you said Russia, not al-Qaida,” Obama said. “You said Russia. And the 1980s are now calling to ask for their foreign policy back. Because the Cold War has been over for 20 years."

Yep. I get it. This foreign policy "stuff" is hard and boring. Jon needs to understand that it's a dangerous world out there, and whether it gets more so or less so after January 2017 depends on his paying attention and choosing wisely next November.

After we punch them in the nose, what do we do?

Kasich is another one of the old 1990s retreads who wants to fight the old USSR again for election. Attacking our militarily superior friend with nukes seems so valiant and wise to the idiot. But Putin's Russia today is less communist than the Democrats we proudly elect and reelect and whose Pravada Media's Serial Lies we pretend to believe for fear of admitting we have become a crippled nation under Obama.

The secret is that Putin holds to the old Christian Russian Orthodox culture while we have thrown out all but a weak Neo-Humanist cartoon culture based sort of on a belief that Star Wars movies are reality.

It's time to tax OPEC oil.

It's time to declare victory on the environment and have a Green Moratorium and Rollback.

It's NOT time to start a war with Vlad. Kasich is an idiot.

Kasich was in the debate, who knew?

First, it's John.

Second, he didn't say he found it hard. He said his mind was starting to wander. In 2 hours of debate, did you stay on track, listening to everything. The human mind does not work like that. I wouldn't trust a mind that wouldn't wander in 2 hours of passive reception of talking on one topic, any topic.

Third, the level at which they were doing foreign policy was not intellectually challenging. They were politicos seeking votes and saying what they thought would work, often talking over each other and bullshitting most of the time. It's not as if paying attention to them talking corresponds to understanding the issues and respecting the importance of the real-world implications.

When I heard that line I thought, this is Kasich trying to be tough like Trump.

The foreign policy stuff really is hard and boring. That doesn't mean we don't need someone who's good at it.

But almost nobody is good at it. Certainly Obama's not, Kerry's not, Hillary's not, George W. Bush is not, and most people who teach international relations at universities are not.

Kissinger is not eligible and not electable.

Kasich's focusing on the wrong enemy at the wrong time shows that he's not a fit candidate for President.

Wimp. We should kick them in the balls and then bite of their left ear. That would show them.

Don't punch Putin unless you have a wooden stake and some holy water handy.

Obama's current strategy toward Syria and ISIS combined with Christie's no Syrian refugees seems best. Let these assholes kill each other while the Iranians and Russians are sucked in.

Someone needs to tell Rubio that we are not the puppet of Saudi Arabia and that they can send their sons to go fight there.

John Kasich must be either looney or so desperate for media attention he'll say anything. (10 to 1 it's the latter.)

Relations with Russia should be cultivated, not poisoned. The lefty/PC EU may deplore ISIS, but that's all they'll do. Merkel, Michel, Löfven, and Solberg are parties in a suicide pact for the West. Rutte, Szydło, and Orbán, are more realistic but their states are too weak economically to resist Merkel's Muslim hordes. Russia, on the other hand will help us if we play it smart.

@Althouse, I could have sworn I read that his name was Jonathan. My apologies.

I don't subscribe to cable, saving lots of money every month and missing nothing in particular. From the wording of your rebuke it appears I didn't even miss much in the way of a foreign policy debate. Back before I retired our company cafeteria had large flat screen TVs on three walls, tuned exclusively to CNN. I wasn't impressed with their choice of stories or anchors. Wolf Bitzer reminds me of a university professor who pickled his brain on a mixture of cocaine, marijuana, and vodka the day after he got tenure.

Here in Northern Virginia we get all the major networks on our antenna from both Washington, DC, and Baltimore, plus foreign news channels like Russia Today (they don't much respect our administration) and NKH (Japan). We also get Chinese movies, with subtitles -- in Chinese characters. I think I get a better, broader picture of what's going on in the world than I'd get with CNN.

But we don't get candidate debates. Awwww.

We've had seven years, with one more coming, of people thinking foreign policy is just this annoying thing over on the side that intrudes on one's golf game or fund raising. Let's hope the next decade sees adults in office.

We did punch him in the nose -- NATO ally Turkey shot down a Russian plane.

I would have liked to see us follow that up with some joint military exercises in Estonia, but maybe that's just me.

The good news: The candidate Ann Althouse supported in 2008 has given the United States a whole list of more powerful enemies. Who can now decide if Russia, China, Iran, al Queda or ISIS is most dangerous to Americans?

This foreign policy stuff is not intellectually challenging. And the discussion was mostly "bullshitting".

Oh, to look back at the halcyon days of 2008 when policy was discussed in detail!

They told me if I voted for....

Kasich is only on the stage to weaken the remaining viable candidates.

I kinda think we should ally with Russia to fight radical Islam, not punch them in the nose.

Drago said...

We were assured by the entire left wing and their media allies that Putin and Russia were in no way true strategic threats to the US.

Anyone believing otherwise is racist and should return immediately to the 80's, a time when Reagan was being so mean to the lefts beloved Soviet Union.

n.n said...

That sounds about right.

Confronting the terrorists at their homes. Preventing a refugee crisis in their land. This all deserves a punch in the nose.

Obama's eroded and pussified military is not up to punching Russia in the nose. Why is it not surprising that Kasich doesn't get this?

Big Mike said...

"Because the Cold War has been over for 20 years."

@Drill SGT, and one might add no thanks to Democrats.

OTOH, maybe thanks to Barack Obama we maybe are going to get the Cold War back again. That's change, isn't it? Maybe a lot of Democrats are nostalgic for the days of the Cold War?

(I can't resist adding that if Kasich did throw a punch at Vlad Putin, old Vladimir, who is a sixth dan black belt in judo and an eighth dan black belt in Kyokushin style of karate, would proceed to beat the living snot out of him without breaking a sweat.)

Anyone who can say seriously that today's Democrats are anything like communists or even on the left side of the political divide between left and right is either joking, deluded, or so far right that John Birch looks like a little pink, (but, I repeat myself).

Cookie! Always a pleasure! I take it you are from the "real Communism has never been tried" school of Communist apologetics. So, in your opinion, who exactly would we find in that tiny and no-doubt shrinking little pocket of true Leftists? Just you and Noam? Maybe Mugabe?
