Goodbye to Garry Shandling.

The brilliant comedian — who was only 66 — died today of a heart attack.

ADDED: "What I want at my funeral is an actual boxing referee to do a count, and at 5, just wave it off, and say 'He's not getting up.'"

From "It's Great That Garry Shandling Is Still Alive," (an episode of "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee") recommended by rehajm in the comments.

Sad. I saw him in Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee recently and he seemed more humble and frail then he usually was.

I learned at the bottom of that link that Ken Howard died yesterday.

He had an outsized impact on me with his role as a coach on White Shadow. One of my favorite shows when I was a young lad. I watched in reruns. Then saw him as Thomas Jefferson in 1776 much later, and a lot of other guest roles throughout the years.

Turns out he was quite the union man as well. Not nearly as famous but one of those people who has appeared regularly and was always fun to see.

One of the naturally funny people.

Ann, if you haven't already seen it, Garry's appearance with Jerry (Comedians in Cars..) is quite enjoyable even if eerily preoccupied with death. http://comediansincarsgettingcoffee.com/garry-shandling-its-great-that-garry-shandling-is-still-alive

Is there anybody good left?

Seems unusual that they didn't already have an obit in the works as per the usual practice, it seems, with celebrities.

Yeah, that was a good episode. He did mention dying in your 60s. What a shock. RIP Garry.

the last several times i'd seen him i didn't think he was looking well...especially for a man only a year older than myself. sad to hear the news but it will be interesting to learn what exactly took him from us.

I really liked this Garry Shandling "25th anniversary special" from the 1980s. I actually own it on laserdisc.
